Rundown (4/07-4/13) Natalie Likes Schedules

When I schedule the games that I review, I tend to prioritize two things. Variety and timeliness, as I do not want to have two similar reviews back to back, but I also need to take into consideration my schedule, which I have ranted about in detail over the past year or so. This has left me unable to keep my promise of reviewing longer games, as I only get about 15 hours of quality gaming time in a given week, and is largely the reason why I started the whole monthly Ramble segment. That, and I wanted to try performing deeper dives into subjects that I feel strongly about and do not see discussed by people better and smarter than me.

I recently purchased Cyberdimension Neptunia: Four Goddesses Online, because while I am rather critical of the Neptunia series, I genuinely like them, and cannot justify skipping out on a title. I managed to squeeze a spot for it into my schedule, but as I went to start it up on Friday night, I quickly ran into issues where the game simply did not work. The Steam forums were not enough to help me with my endeavors, as all methods I could find proved to be ineffective. The game runs, barely, but I can neither play nor refund it, so I guess I’ll need to wait until I get a new PC in order to try again, because Idea Factory is certainly not going to patch this game…

Rundown (3/04-3/10) Stop Everything! Press-Switch is Out!

So, a new build of Press-Switch came out, utterly surprising me, and as is always the case with releases of this game, or its sister title Student Transfer, it shot straight up on my priority list. Except this time I am actually going to review this latest build V0.5a, even though it is largely a revision that does not have most of the content, as, due to coding issues and a desire to change the introduction, the game needs to basically be remade. That would be enough to dissuade me in most cases, but screw it, I’ve wanted to review this game for almost 4 bloody years, and I’m gonna do it! At least, after I put out this massive Rundown.

So, you know how I posted my review of Fire Emblem Heroes earlier this week and ended the review by saying that I would stop playing? I’ve been learning how hard that actually is and that lifestyle games are pretty much the worst thing I could have ever gotten into. Knowing that if I stop playing the game, I may forever miss out on various bits of content is genuinely disconcerting to me, and because of that, I do not know how to distance myself from the game. I need to stop, but it’s hard!

Rundown (11/05-11/11) Sonic Team Made an Oopsie!

Over the past week Sonic Forces came out, and the general reception of the game has been… pretty darn poor to be honest. From criticisms levied towards the barren level design, a story that does not properly take advantage of its premise and characters, and various underlying gameplay/technical issues that make the game less refined than Sonic Generations, which came out six years ago. It is a genuinely confusing state of affairs, especially because of how much time Sonic Team has had to invest in this game.

Superdimension Neptune VS Sega Hard Girls Review

Part of me is absolutely amazed by how the Neptunia series continues onward despite the games being only average to pretty good and the target audience for these titles being a niche among niches. In spite of this, the series proved popular enough to justify a crossover with an anime and manga series centered around the personifications of Sega consoles, or Console-tans as they are colloquially known, called Sega Hard Girls or Hi-sCoool! SeHa Girls. In theory, the crossover sounds incredibly sensible, but as I should not be surprised by at this point, it is kind of a mess. (more…)

Rundown (4/09-4/15) Q1 2017 Was the Best Quarter for Video Games

Recently, discussions have begun about how 2017 might just be one of the best years in video gaming, as the first quarter of the year was home to an excess of stellar titles. However, I can’t help but find any of those claims to be a bit overly presumptuous, as the year is still beginning. But if people were instead talking about how Q1 was the best quarter in the history of gaming, then that it both entirely justifiable, and those people are probably right considering the number of great games that came out in those 90 days. The only one of which I played was Dragon Quest VIII… Man, I am really disconnected from the cultural zeitgeist. (more…)

For a while now, I’ve been thinking about phasing out my current site in order to establish a new place to host all of my gave reviews, rundowns, and other writings, without the excess baggage that comes with a blog that one has been working with for about five years. I feel that I have become substantially better as a writer, and have a lot of things on this blog that I don’t really want to attach myself to. However, if I do switch over to a new site, I want it to be something very nice and more professional than a free WordPress blog, and feature a higher standard of writing quality than I currently have. So the idea is on the backburner until I am done with school and, presumably, have more time to devote to projects like this. I’d also need a better name for the site. (more…)

vlcsnap-2016-11-19-13h51m38s078Well, this Black Friday sure sucked for me. I wasn’t able to get the $100 New Nintendo 3DS because they were made available online before I thought they would be, and were quickly sold out because Nintendo of America loves undersuppling for some reason. Square Enix also hosted a sale on their storefront, but the three games I initially wanted to buy for 70% off received a price hike by the time I tried purchasing them. Though, the absolute worst thing is probably how very little news happened this past week on account of all of these sales, so this week’s rundown will be most brief. (more…)

MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune Vs. Zombies Review

20161004190240_1After having gone through Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1, Re;Birth2, Re;Birth3, Hyperdevotion Noire, Neptunia U, and Megadimension Neptunia VII, I’d say I have a very thorough familiarity with the Neptunia series, and for the seventh time in the past two years, another game in the series has found its way to PC, and law permits that now I have to play and review it. I expected a fairly lacking game that featured marginal improvements from the mechanical predecessor Neptunia U, but not only is that not the case here, MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune Vs. Zombies is the worst Neptunia game I’ve ever played. I’d say worse ever, but the PS3 games were rubbish. (more…)

20160805135636_1So this week I began a project that will involve months of tedious data entry, and nearly everything that could go wrong with getting this project set up occurred when I tried setting it up. But I’m going to be paid good money for doing it. Also, my mother gave me a tablet that she got for free from AT&T. Meaning I could play Pokemon Go, if I had a data plan, quite easily as well due to the pair of Pokestops that are just a few blocks away from my house. However, I don’t, and I do not have anything else I can really use a tablet for. (more…)

Bread Wife by ONATaRTTime for an update regarding my narrative writings! First off, I am going to revise my two prior novels, Verde’s Doohickey and The Malice of Abigale Quinlan in the ensuing weeks, where I will remove red herrings and things that are distracting to the story or just do not work. I will also be rewriting one of my favorite story, Psycho Shatter, to better match my current standard of writing. Now, you may be asking why I am doing this. Well, my upcoming story, tentatively titled Psycho Bullet Festival: Please Bury My Children, has been encountering quite a few snags over the past few months, and I want to put out something in the meantime. Plus, I’ve wanted to do these things for a while, and I feel that is as good a time as any. (more…)

Megadimension Neptunia VII Review

20160723113855_1My thoughts on the Neptunia games should be well documented by now. From Re;Birth 1, 2, and 3 to U and Hyperdevotion, every game in this series has loads of potential, and could easily be a zany and lighthearted adventure overloaded with adoration for the medium of video games. Unfortunately, the lack of polish present in these games, and the lack of quality of their content has prevented any game in this series from being greater than being okay. For over a year, I’ve looked at Neptunia VII as the point where the series would ideally start getting good, where it would ascend to new plains and become a genuinely great series of fun lighthearted RPGs… it almost does. In the meantime, my summer is going to be pretty free, aside from the nonsense that will surely follow coming out to my parents; which I probably shouldn’t be talking about on a public blog, but I don’t really care if the mundane details of my life are detailed to other people. They probably should not even care, because aside from my self loathing and stream of thoughts that can only be conjured by a corrupted mind, I’m quite boring. (more…)

Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart Review

20160428170204_1This is the fifth Neptunia game I’m reviewing after going over the PC ports of Re;Birth1, Re;Birth2, Re;Birth3, and U, and my expectations for what these games will deliver have been set. Serviceable gameplay, rampant recycling of the same assets, and a cheesy story peppered with enjoyable characters and a sense of humor that I can’t help but love on some level. With this being an Strategy RPG spin-off I wasn’t expecting much, and those expectations were met. (more…)

I’m not sure why, as I was always a B student, and my writing was actually praised by a few teachers. This school district also sent me to play with the down syndrome and retarded children once a week in third and fourth grade. Because Autism, I guess. Hitomi Horse Rude Nonsense Retarded RandomWhatever backlog of games I’ve accumulated over the years has petered away as of late. Partially because I more or less abandoned my backlog for the seventh generation of consoles when I switched to PC, and mostly because I am rather flippant when determining whether or not I want to put a game in a virtual rubbish bin. Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed Review

20160324184419_1Throughout 2015, I reviewed the three Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth games, a trilogy of remakes for the first three games in the series, and my dissatisfaction with their quality only intensified as I went through one every few months. They weren’t bad games, just meddling and complacent with abiding by negative gameplay based JRPG tropes and recycling content and assets like mad. But before Megadimension Neptunia VII, which is looking to fix a lot of the misgivings of its predecessors, comes to PC, there’s Neptunia U: Action Unleashed, a button basher spin-off from the Senran Kagura developers. MLM Good Evening Odd Greetings

I’ve been doing this, a weekly rundown of the happenings in video game news, for about three years at this point. I used the segment as a way to interject my own petulant thoughts about the banal happenings in the video game industry and make use of hundreds of anime screenshots I was collecting. You know, back when I still watching and reviewing anime. It gradually descended into bitching in many respects, and despite my efforts to improve this over the past few weeks, I’ve become tired of the weekly rigmarole. This may be the last Nigmabox Rundown for a while, or I may come running back next week like nothing’s changed. (more…)

0 DR2 Fuck Yeah alright here we go now get hyped energy to the maxSo, I’m currently replaying Final Fantasy XIII, because I felt I had unfinished business with that game, and I am thoroughly amazed that the creators were able to tolerate their creation. As a writer, there is so much about this game’s story that drives me nuts, and I cannot believe that 65 million was invested into such a lackluster story. That, and the gameplay’s auto battle system simply does not work as it is told to—  I’ll save it for the review proper, for now, The Game Awards and the Playstation Experience both happen, so here is a rundown of some of those things. Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3: V Generation

2015-10-30_00007Despite my dedication and interest in the franchise, I still find the Neptunia Re;Birth trilogy to be a very temperamental collection of JRPGs that are, and I’m not sure the developers even realize this, are… pretty poorly designed. Re;Birth1 was a massive improvement in comparison to the awful original Hyperdimension Neptunia for PS3. Re;Birth2 was a better game in theory, but it had so many repetitive, temperamental, and annoying elements that I quickly dropped it after beating the game. While Re;Birth3 is probably the best of the bunch, but even I couldn’t convince myself to go through the post game content due to a plethora of issues. (more…)

0Some people are excited about Fallout 4 coming out in a manner of days, but I am waiting until 2017 or so to play it, as I would rather enjoy a complete game with mods applied rather than a buggy game at launch. At the moment, one of my most anticipated game was just released this morning, Student Transfer. Student Transfer is a body swapping and transformation focused game that is made by the fans of Press-Switch, an unfinished title I praised in the past for being something of a dream game of mine, and I plan on reviewing come the next release. I would have already started playing it, but there are a few bugs that are being worked out at the moment, and I am only at chapter 6 in Neptunia Re;Birth3. Regardless, expect a post about Student Transfer, a game I could help create if I so wish to, but I don’t do well with group projects for the most part, and I want full ownership of everything I do. However, even if I weren’t keeping to my word to not buy the game before September 1, 2017, as to make my claim that I wouldn’t buy the game for ‘years’, I don’t think I’d be that interested. Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 Review

Hyperdimension_Neptunia_Re_Birth1_startI don’t think I ever watched any proper gameplay footage of the original Hyperdimension Neptunia. In preparation for writing this review, and curiosity, I gave it a glance, and it is amazing that the game was A, released, B, localized, and C, given not only two sequels, but spawned a franchise so large that, between June 2014 and Winter 2015 should be home to seven releases in North America, and two or more ports. The original honestly looks like the worst, slowest, most boring JRPG to ever have an even remotely creative idea in its head. It actually makes it hard to call Re;Birth 1 a remake, as it is largely unrecognizable as the same game in regards to anything beyond its base storyline and characters. (more…)

Yep, another double decker! Meaning there are untouched paragraphs from the twenty-second and a length that is a bit longer than I would like. With my image storage certainly dwindling, although I do occasionally find gems like the header. It actually makes me really upset at how CrunchyRoll is handling their manga service, as it is both limited in terms of library and requires a subscription to view pages available on the internet. I mean, really? Limited to only the newest chapter for series that have been going on for volumes? I’ll stick with hunting for delightfully insane stuff while procrastinating for my School Days review. Because goldarn is that show boring!
