Rundown (8/25-8/31) The Pursuit of Hard Work

While working at my office job I frequently catch my assorted co-workers ceasing whatever task they were in the midst of or simply passing time by socializing with others.  It is an activity that I understand in small instances, but many of their conversations go on for 15 or more minutes, and center around unrelated minutiae rather than anything work-related.  Which I personally find to be… wrong at least to some degree. I approach work with a very regimented and task oriented mindset, and while I do take time to check my email or RSS feeds on occasion, I always go back to whatever needs to be done, and try to finish the task in an efficient manner.  I suppose this is just due to how I have a more serious work ethic, but it regularly surprised me to see people take such a lax approach to their professions, especially when they have families to take care of. Maybe that’s the right approach to take, and I’m just a fool for working so intently, or maybe they’re just a bunch of slackers.  I dunno.

Bowser Peach Best by MariTheLilimRemember how last week I was befuddled by the notion of Toadette obtaining a Royal Crown power up to become Peachette, as demonstrated in the reveal trailer for New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe? While doing so, I also wondered what would happen if other characters got ahold of the item, though I never would have expected much to come from this. Then somebody made a comic featuring Bowser using a Super Crown, and turning into “Bowsette”, which in turn sparked a slew of confusion and fan art. I have made it no secret that I like TG stuff, and seeing something like this pop up and become a big deal is akin to a miniature Christmas for me, as it is rare that such a niche interest gets meaningful exposure.  Plus, the sheer quantity of art that has been made is downright absurd.  I thought that the Fatal Cutie Terry Bogard craze was the best I was ever going to get, but this makes that look like the Mario Odyssey possession craze, which was so upsettingly small!

0 KLK How did you read my mind I do not like it when you know my throughts prediction to my reality guessed right good jobI am still working on my second proper novel, The Malicious Abigale Quinlan, in case you are wondering. Development has been a little hectic to be honest, but after rewroking certain parts of the story while keeping the core events the same, I feel I will be able to finish writing it by year’s end. Although, I will need to do some editing afterwards, which will take me about a month or so. Alright, onto a #FucKonami piece. (more…)

DR2 Feel the DesPair You Little CuntI am aware that my output for reviews has lessened, but Neptunia was a massive time investment, and I just shelved World End Economica after a few hours, as I found the game to be more irritating than it was interesting. The main character is something of an entitled brat who does not respect humanity’s past, makes his money by playing the stock market, wears a scarf and shorts, and is a blatant misogynist, and I quite frankly was sick of both him and the side characters. The visual novel is also pretty irritatingly written, with most of its script coming off as awkward or as if it was not read through prior to the game’s publishing. So there will not be a review of it despite my tweets bad mouthing the game, as I’d rather play… Um… I’ll pick something. (more…)

1 GUP War It is Hell And No People Are AliveSo, Dragon Age Inquisition comes out on my Birthday, but a combination of the price, bugs, and how I am saving for a GTX 970 ontop of the inevitable Steam sales puts it on the back burner. Oh, and Origin, never forget about that yucky Origin! I really do want to dive in though, but I have visual novels and some PS+ games to keep me preoccupied. Also out of the streets, where there is always a war on. A nice chilly one at the moment, filled with mutants. (more…)

The Wolf Among Us Review

The-Wolf-Among-UsOh goodie, another Telltale Games season that I plowed through rather quickly and walked away less than dazzled by, and having quite a bit of discomfort with what I just played, while being peased about how it was a different experience. Yes, The Wolf Among Us was on my list of to-do for a while, and I finally dedicated two days to beat it. I paid little mind to it during development, hoping it would pull another The Walking Dead Season One, but it did not.

The Walking Dead Season Two Review

the-walking-dead-game-season-2-walkthroughOkay, Telltale’s The Walking Dead. Opinion on the first season? Delightful little gem that I think should be played if you happen to own one of the dozen devices it was released for. However, following up on something that was lightning in a bottle and very much stood on its two legs several playthroughs in, and doing that while also making another title is a feat I would dub insane regardless of the pedigree. So it is a bit sad that I have to say that I did not find season two to come notably as close as season one did in just about any of the factors that would place it highly on my favorite games list. Yet I am one to provide reason for claims, and here is my review claiming why by dissecting season two to the best of my ability after one playthrough. I originally intended two, but then Danganronpa went on sale and I wanted to play it in order for a semi-timely review… over a week after the sequel comes out. (more…)

Rundown (7/20-7/26) Press-Switch

0 Press Switch To The InternetOkay, so following a, well, a year sparse in terms of great games, at least in terms of what I’ve been playing, I both revisited The Walking Dead and visited what I dub the fifth tier of indie games, titles that nobody knows about, have little information given, and are for the majority of the cases, just bad. Well, that’s where I stumbled onto Press Switch, a Ren’Py made visual novel that is the most overly ambitious and pandering appearing thing that effectively blew me away by offering a barrage of content, and quality stuff at that. Now, I am naturally bias as I am part of the subset of people who are fond of transformation, gender alteration, and body swapping in terms of fiction, as if you couldn’t tell by reading my novel, The Body of Raiyne. Yet the fact that I found something that is both a visual novel and a quality one at that is nothing short of amazing. Downside is that the game’s choices are difficult to track, to the point where a flowchart is necessary. It is also made from a subset of Japanese visual novels by the name of Bishop, and the creator made sure to use as much as they could from them, including several sex and masturbation scenes, some of which include rape… Yeah, not a fan of that in the slightest. Still, third best game I’ve played in 2014 after The Stanley Parable and Persona 4 Golden… take that, game industry. (more…)

TWD-the-walking-dead-game-32546828-1280-800Okay, okay, okay. I realize that I should not get into the habit of redoing everything I’ve ever done, but sometimes I want to replay a game after a while, and look back at my past review of said game and view it as lacking. Yes, I said mostly nice things, but I don’t think I said them very well, and this will hopefully amend that. That, and I wanted to get a refresher for 400 Days, which I’m not gonna review, because it would be two rather annoyed paragraphs. (more…)

It figures that I have run out of things to say after two months, so I’m just going to list some random thoughts, like Chibi Robo’s adventures in a nightclub which ends with it causing all the sex from the humans… Yeah, I’ll just get to the news before I start typing out Max Anarchy song lyrics for fun. Telltale’s The Walking Dead Review

The-Walking-Dead-farm

Note: I re-reviewed this game in 2013. Please disregard this original review.

The surprise popularity in The Walking Dead game was something that I originally presumed to be something that everyone would forget about come the fourth of the five episode. Not that it was bad, because that is what I remember about every Telltale game, a general decline in interest with an end product that people ended up getting a bit too excited for. Not to put them down, I never actually played one of their previous games beyond a demo or two, with my reactions being positive. But them bringing a game of the year? That not only blew my mind, it made me snatch it up, and ignore my backlog just to get around to it. And, well, I can certainly see why so many people liked it.
