Wherein I discuss: A sick skinsuit TSF comic. The end of ownership. Saudi Arabia’s continued influence over Gamindustri. Atlus trying to double-kill their own games. The re;birth of E3. The racist tendencies of one of the most lucrative games of the modern era. A peashy PC port. And the end of a non-subscription streaming service.

Rundown (2/10-2/16) Flowchart Nightmares Ahead 2: You Can (Not) Prepare

Last Friday the Student Transfer development team announced that Version 4 will be coming before the end of February, boasting that this version will contain roughly twice the content as Version 3. A surprising bit of news that I find to be simultaneously exciting and intimidating to me, as I have taken on the duty of creating the flowcharts for sprawling choose-your-own adventure style visual novels about TG, body swapping, and more. I very much want to enjoy the game and take my time with it, but Version 3 took me a good week to get through, so I am a bit concerned about getting a flowchart ready in a timely manner, especially with work and grad school keeping me so busy. As such, I decided to do my homework in advance and download what I can off of the public Student Transfer GitHub in order to get cracking on a rough flowchart for V4 at the risk of spoiling myself.  Only to discover that with the way this game is developed, I would basically need to consolidate the builds available myself and… yeah, that sounds like more trouble than it’s worth.

Rundown (12/17-1/06) I’m Back and I’m Tired!

Hello everybody. While I initially said that I was not going to start up the whole Nigmabox train until mid-January, I have been feeling a lot better post-surgery than I expected, and have been somewhat productive when it comes to playing games, so I figured that I’ll resume my usual review and rundown schedule. I was actually going to start things up sooner, but, well, I could not find enough noteworthy new stories to do a full Rundown, hence why I’m bundling together three weeks of news here.

Rundown (8/27-9/02) The Future Will Hold Less Despair

In between my rapid running through the game I’m reviewing next week (mostly because the other two I lined up had mechanical and optimization issues), I found some time to play the demo for Danganronpa V3, and I have to remark at how impressed I am to see a demo of such length, detail, and quality be released for a game in this day and age. It was not as elaborate as I am sure the final game will be, the Class Trial didn’t even have a proper ending, but the level of detail and showcasing of some new mechanics made me excited to see more the game of its colorful cast and how the final game will shape up. It’s actually comforting to know that the same Danganronpa spirit I have come to love at least appears to remain alive in this entry, when I’ve had doubts about this series’ future ever since the unfortunate Danganronpa 3. Anyways, on with the news. (more…)

Rundown (4/23-4/29) I Never Played a PS2 Game

Considering I have a website primarily dedicated to game reviews and news, it should probably come as a surprise that I never so much as touched a Playstation 2 with my own hands. I had opportunities to play the system at a friend’s house when I was a little kid, but I never took advantage of that and instead preferred watching them play. It is the best selling video game console of all time, was the prominent one during a bulk of my childhood, and the fact that I never did, and likely never will, play a game on the thing just makes me feel like I’m doing something wrong. Then again, I sometimes feel that way about existing, so I’m probably just a bit of a fool for getting worked up over such a semantic thing.

Rundown (4/02-4/08) Nintendo is Memetic for Their Ineptitude

…I really hope Nintendo’s virtual console service for the Nintendo Switch is better than the dreck I’m dreading it to be. That is, what it has been in the past, with perhaps some nebulous and obnoxious downside that people expect from the company in the same way they expect a retarded child to make a scene whenever they are taken out anywhere. Just dump all the ROMs you have from prior systems on the service, make them cost very little, and make them all run well with modern emulator sensibilities. I mean, people can get all the SNES games on their phones in about an hour, and that needs to be considered when devising a service like this. Also, make Wii games available for sale, because the Joy-Cons can totally emulate the Wii Remote and nunchuk. (more…)

20161018200242_1Seeing as how Nintendo will be unveiling a whole lot of information about the Switch next week, there really have not been that many announcements made this past week, or a lot that I consider to be worth discussing. Well, other than PC ports, which I will always go out of my way to talk about as it is something that pretty directly benefits me, as it increases the library of games I can play on my platform of choice for the past 3.5 years. pl-santa-claus-martians-jingle-bells-christmas-wackyWell, it’s finally Christmas, the year is near an end, and I’m unfortunately not feeling very well. My throat has been bothering me this past week, likely due to an influx of black mold that was present in a place I worked on Monday, and as such it’s hard for me to speak. Anyways, I hope everyone is enjoying their obligatory familial festivities and receives a collection of gifts to their liking. I’m probably just going to get $100 to spend on my medical expenses. 20160706222025_1So, I’ve been doing this for, what, three years now? I literally just remembered that I needed to post this within the past twenty minutes. Yeah, let that be a sentiment to how awful I can be at managing my various tasks and assignments, so long as they are self imposed at the very least. I mean, I never missed an assignment in school, and I didn’t even use an assignment notebook in high school, so why that diligence didn’t transfer over is beyond me. (more…)

WhassupApologies for not getting a Hyperdevotion Noire review up. Work, school, and family stuff all cut into the time I could put into that game. Review should be up tomorrow evening. Also, on May 31st I will (hopefully) release a novella I’m currently working on called Maple Loves Senpai. It’s a story about a Japanese schoolgirl who gets absorption powers and is guided by the voice of her lover to consume people in order to transform herself into his ultimate waifu. Many stereotypes and dark themes ensue. (more…)

0 20160324175445_1Jeepers am I going to have a lot of games to play this month. Hyper Light Drifter came out on March 31st, Hunie Cam Studios launches April 4th, Danganronpa 2 is out April 18th, and Double Root: Before Crime After Days Xtend Edition is out sometime this month. Plus a proper review of Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin should be up whenever I find time to finish that game amidst this chaos. Seriously, this is the reason why I don’t like buying lots of games at launch. You need to build your schedule around release dates, get 60% through a lot of games, and then stop suddenly and hopefully get back to it later. (more…)

0 Watamote The fuck you talking about porn bikes you neet go get shot you idiot why you existSo, I was hoping to start building a new computer soon, but my mother told me that I should put away 60-70% of my money instead of fifty-something, so that brought my funds down by about $600, so it will take a while to build up the additional $750 or so… I’m going to need to deal with my current computer for a while while trying to maximize my frugalness to avoid feeling a level of despair and inferiority, although I totally deserve that for being a disgrace to the glorious name of Autism. At least the state of Illinois is willing to pay for my college education and help me get a real full time adult job in a few years ‘cos my Autism is 100% official now. (more…)

Persona 4 Golden Review

Persona-4I guess this is where I talk about my history with the Shin Megami Tensei series, as I technically have one. I watched a playthrough of the Australian version of Persona 3 FES back in 2011, learning of both the plot and gameplay mechanics as I familiarized myself with the flow the sub franchise, which arguably blossomed into a franchise separate from, say, Shin Megami Tensei IV, a very gluttonous game that left me bored in terms of story due to how terrible the pacing was shaped by the frankly unenjoyable gameplay that prioritized grinding above all else. I gave it 40 hours, if only to justify my $42. But hey, people praised the crap out of Persona 4, especially Golden and I saw it worthy to get over thrice the playtime. (more…)

Diggers Go To JailYeah, past two weeks have been slowing down, and everything is going to wind to a halt come the post Christmas lull. With people looking forward to a very fruitful Q1 for 2014, and looking back at the prior year to hand out awards, which I plan on doing along with some work on the actual infrastructure of this blog… I basically did that, apparently. Now to just finish the draft for Punky & Yuccot: A Post-Apocalyptic Adventure.

Space FartsNow what antics do I have to begin this week’s assortment of recapped game news? Well, I’ve been playing Psychonauts, and committed heresy by not liking the copious amounts of jank that it shares with Beyond Good and Evil. Also I’ve been reading the Dragon Ball manga, which is pretty rad and weird, but was very clearly made up as things went on for a bit too long. Also, I have narrative qualms about Attack On Titan, which I’ll post a review of before the end of the month. Now what else happened aside from GTA V being a thing? (more…)

Code of Princess Review

I always feel bad when someone talks about how a title is a spiritual successor to a beloved classic, when I do not know much of anything about the original title. Sure, I played the demo of Guardian Heroes, but I found it to be a bit too slow for a beat-em-up. However, I still preordered it. Why? Because Atlus is the kind of company who would rather understock than overstock, and it was $30 now, or $50 later. And it came with a CD and neat box, so that at least supplies the cushion. Yet, as someone who has little experience with anything like Code of Princess, what do I think of it? Well, let’s just say I’m a bit torn on the subject.
