This TSF Showcase is a follow-up to last week’s showcase of TSF Monogatari. If you haven’t read it already, you should should, or else you’re probably going to be more than a trifle bit confused.

Following the success of TSF Monogatari, Shindo L began producing various doujin releases that expanded upon the story of the original. These releases, dubbed TSF Monogatari Append, include additional intermediary chapters, a continuation of the original story, and a deluge of comics and pin-ups from a bevy of guests artists. With 6 appendices released over the span of 9 years, easily eclipsing the original release in length, any discussion of TSF Monogatari would be incomplete without discussing these appendices. So I committed myself to that as part of this showcase… but there’s a problem with trying to cover all of TSF Monogatari Append.

A lot of it is just standard fanzine doujin additions that are not particularly interesting or fun to platform. They are just sanctioned fan art, alternate universe antics, and some absolutely unhinged buck wild crap that… I do not want to talk about. Like when Takumi fucks a child. Or when Anri gets fucked by a horse. And it’s not even funny! It’s clearly meant to be masturbation material for people who aspire to grow up to be professional rape horses! Don’t lie, I see you wackos!

The subject of canonicity also comes up when trying to analyze TSF Monogatari through these appendices, and a good example of this shows up on the literal first page. A full-page spread of Takumi, dressed mostly naked, presenting her body to a crowd of people, explaining that she is an exhibitionist. That, even prior to her transformation, she had a fantasy of becoming a woman and engaging in exhibition.

If I were to take this as canon, as something Takumi always desired, that would completely change the lens of which I view the entire story of TSF Monogatari. Because then it stops being a story about a regular high school boy transforming into a woman, and becomes a story about someone’s sexual fantasy becoming a reality. It would turn nearly every rape scene where Takumi is unable to control her sexual desires into a scene where she is catering to her fetish on some level, and… I don’t like that. I do not think it fits the characters she is depicted as throughout the original comic.

I don’t like thinking of Takumi as getting riled up and thrilled that she is sucking dick in public, because she is in public. Or performing her silly little monkey dance before 20 old dudes. If she was, and she was loving it, being this sexually aggressive figure who was using the scenario for her own gain, that would be one thing. …But she’s also not. She is too clumsy, passive, gullible, and dumb for this interpretation to work. It is an interjection of a trait that does not work with her prior characterization.

Now, who came up with this concept? Was it the illustrator of this page, Murasaki Shu? Was this a Shindo L concept that he came up later? Was this always an intention that was not carried into the main work due to incompetence? I do not know, and it is easier to dismiss things like this as events that never happened, and do not reflect the canon characters.

There are others that I think are sufficiently aligned with the spirit, and canonicity of the series. Such as Punishing Takumi-Chan by Sabusuka and the toilet two-pager by Natushima Godou, both from Append 3.0. But because these are just teensy little comics, and not part of a bigger story, I’m not going to be covering them, and will stick to Shindo L’s contributions. It’s easier, cleaner, and I still have over 8,000 words of things to say about just those.

Chapter 0.1 (Append 1.0): Flashback Time

Chapter 0.1 picks up immediately after Takumi wake ups from the intensive surgery that transformed their body, and waking up specifically on March 21st. …Which you should note, as Professor Nattie did not forget about the test.

Takumi is naturally groggy, but Doctor Taijiri is conveniently by their side to explain what happened. Takumi has been in a coma for four months and their body has been fully transformed. Gaining fully developed boobs, hair that goes down to their cushy butt, and a reformed skeleton for good measure. This all, predictably, shocks Takumi, but with their muscles atrophied they will need to undergo a fair amount of rehab. Rehab that, you’d imagine would also involve Takumi learning about how to live as a woman, and care for their new body.

Of course, the hospital would lack a specialist on this, but even Takumi’s mother would be better than nothing. And we even get a confirmation that Takumi’s parents are aware of this, and do plan on visiting their child. We don’t actually see them, but their mere mention raises many questions.

Once left alone, Takumi tries getting acquainted with their new form. Checking out their new face, gawking at their breasts, poking their firm nipples, surprised at how sensitive they are. Through enough fiddling, their vagina starts tingling, and they investigate it by craning their head forward, starting at it while stretching it out. All while remarking how it looks “kinda grotesque” and “like [their] internal organs are popping out of [their] body.”

This is actually my favorite sequence in the entire series, as it is such a grounded and human reaction to it. Vaginas are beautiful, by they are also weird. They are an orifice only protected by a thin floppy seal, with layers, holes, and a lopsided shape that leads into a deep abyss that can only be reached with specialized instruments… or phalluses. Hell, the first time I saw my vagina after getting my vulvoplasty, I thought back to this exact scene. Which definitely says a lot about me and the amount of brain space I’ve devoted to TSF.

However, before Takumi can properly explore their new form, Doctor Taijiri comes in uninvited and tells them that there is nothing wrong with a woman masturbating. Takumi panics, claiming that they’re still a guy, but Doctor Taijiri says that, biologically, they are completely female, and there is no way to reverse the changes to their body, so Takumi may as well learn how to live as a woman. …Before claiming that she will be providing Takumi with “plenty of support.”

I need to call bullcrap on that. Taijiri offered Takumi abso-freaking-lutely zero support. She did not teach them anything about living as a woman, she did not give them any clothes, act as somebody they could contact readily if they have problems— this bad bitch said she wants to upport Takumi, but they didn’t even give them a bra! I mean, look at those boobs and tell me they can go bra-less!

See, this is why I didn’t want to view everything chronologically, because it introduces too many plot holes and contradictions!

Chapter 1.3 (Append 2.0): Boogie Woogie Mainland

Despite being chapter 1.3, this chapter actually seems to take place sometime during chapter 1. I say this in part because Takumi is still wearing their male school uniform— specifically the summer uniform that we don’t see until chapter 4. …Or maybe Takumi just didn’t feel like wearing the blazer. Argh! I’ll be here forever if I pry at every continuity error! Point is, Takumi is out with Ryou, the two hanging out presumably before Ryou raped them. They were separated, Takumi headed to the male restroom at a park, and as they exit, they run into a pair of Black men.

Black men who speak in a difficult to read handwritten script, and are depicted with significantly less… humanity than even the fat ugly bastards from the rest of the comic. With eyes sealed by Youngblood’s Disease, forms massive and rippling with muscle, and visible tattoos. They are exotified racial stereotypes. I would typically shrug something like this off as Japanese people being ignorant of other cultures in general, but Shindo L was actually born in America, specifically Queens. He grew up in America, went to college, and then moved to Japan to work in ero manga. So… dude should know better.

You could say that this work was never meant to be read by an American audience. That the target demographic is Japanese people who, by in large, have never even seen a Black person in real life, let alone spoken to one. And Shindo L’s postscript seems to imply as much, stating that he liked the contrast of “pairing black and white skins” and that he found it fun to draw interracial scenes where there is a language barrier, leaving the characters to communicate via sex. …I’ll leave you to interpret that however you see fit.

Tangent aside, the chapter itself is only four pages. The guys show up, try asking Takumi some questions about coming out of a men’s restroom, Takumi does not speak English and gets overwhelmed, unsure how to resist as they get handsy and ask to take Takumi out to a club. It’s an awkward situation in general and, because Takumi is still not used to this whole ‘being a girl’ thing, they need to be rescued by Ryou. One of the guys thinks he can take Ryou on, calling him skinny, but the other tells him to drop it, saying that they will “find some bitches by the school.” Ah, so exotified racial stereotypes and pedophiles. Sugoi!

Takumi snaps at Ryou for leaving them alone, but Ryou earns Takumi’s favor by giving them some of their beloved melon bread. It’s a running gag in the series, especially the appendices. With this transgression forgiven, Takumi thanks Ryou for being there to rescue them, adding that they will keep counting on him going forward. …Wow, this just makes the fact that Ryou raped Takumi all the worse!

Chapter 2.5 (Append 1.0): Shoo-Be Doo-Be My Boy

Jumping back to Append 1.0, chapter 2.5 takes place after Takumi’s first encounter with the train molester and having sex with Ryou during PE class. With a caption conveniently informing us that this is May 12, just a bit under a two months after Takumi’s actual transformation per chapter 0.1.

Takumi is at the local game center— remember, this comic takes place in 2010-ish— along with the Rape Squad trio. From the dialogue, we gather that Takumi has continued to allow these guys to grope her regularly, and they have somehow gathered that she is having sex with Ryou. For some reason, this admission is enough to fry Takumi’s nerves, and she lets these boys manhandle her like a stress ball. They ignore her calls to stop, slap lips on her face, and as she becomes awash with amplified stimulation, she just kind of lets them do whatever they want. Sure, she thinks this is mortifying, but if feels too good for her to resist. Typical Takumi shit.

They continue at a TSF Monogatari photo booth— cute— where the Rape Squad takes turns fucking her. The long-haired one does her doggy style, but has the decency to use a condom at least. The spiky haired one tries getting a condom blowjob, but Takumi fails to orally apply the condom, so she just gets mouth fucked raw instead. He then proceeds to cum so fast, hard, and stankily that Takumi barfs all over herself. And they commemorate this experience with a photo of Takumi drizzling cum-filled puke over her bare tits. Very classy. Extremely necessary.

It is just another sex scene, and is largely a retread of what we saw in both chapters 1 and 3 during Takumi’s other encounters with the Rape Squad. However, here I need to ask why the hell Takumi is hanging out with these assholes. They already raped Takumi once, Takumi knows that they are bad people to be around who do not respect her. They take advantage of her, offer nothing in return, and this is before Anri would have disappeared. Anri TOLD YOU to not mess with these guys, ya dumb-dumb!

This chapter adds nothing new to the story, and just makes Takumi seem like a stupider, more desperate person, with a terrible judge of character, who gets taken advantage of by her supposed friends. It is sex for the sake of sex. No points!

There’s actually a similarly redundant unnamed 18 page chapter by artist Yuuji Kurenai in Append 2.0. There, Takumi gets pool-fucked by the Rape Squad after a teacher— the literal only teacher in this school— lumps her in with the boys. And that’s pretty much it. It is not here to supplement the characters or anything, it’s just here as extra porn. Segments like this and chapter 2.5 are both perfectly fine as porn… but I’m not here to watch cartoon people fuck. I’m there for the storytelling and the fucking that enhances the storytelling.

Jumping around to the postscript of Append 2.0, Shindo L claims that a lot of ideas had to be cut to tell Takumi’s story, but what story is that? What does this add to the greater story? What are people meant to take away from this?

Chapter 3.5 (Append 2.0): Funkin’ For Jamaica

…Looking at it, I’m not quite sure when chapter 3.5 is meant to take place. It opens with Takumi and Ryou walking home from school— something that they have never been shown doing before. Takumi mentions how exhausting school can be before thanking Ryou for being there to protect her, giving him a kiss on the cheek. In chapter 3, Ryou is briefly seen joining in the Takumi fuck-fest, looking down at Takumi without saying anything before she sucks his dick, and I can only assume this is meant to happen after this and before Takumi’s ‘vacation’ at the inn. Because Takumi would have been too far gone after that to be as ‘normal’ as she is currently being.

Anyway, while walking down the city streets, looking for some time to kill, she runs into the two Black guys from chapter 1.3, who ask her to go clubbing. She has nothing better to do in her life, no hobbies other than sex, I guess, so she agrees to go with them, hoping these men won’t be like “those other idiots.” The men then escort Takumi to a clothing store, literally named CHEAP, owned by one of their friends and dress her up in a revealing clubbing outfit, complete with a mars and venus studded belt buckle that… I would not wear, but I would buy.

Takumi is nervous yet excited by her new digs, and once she is set free in the club, she soars. The music drowns out her worries, her body moves without thinking, and she relishes in the heat of the bodies around her, the sweat on her skin. This loosens up her enough for Black guy number two to pull her aside and kick off a classic example of a date rape. Pulling her close, taking a sip of beer, and then pouring it down her throat to get her drunk, loosening her convictions, and making her more susceptible to whatever people want her to do. It does not matter that she cannot understand anything they’re saying.

Fondling leads into a second ‘big Black man mouthful’ of booze, and once Takumi has something sweet in her mouth, she’s willing to suck this guy’s ‘big Black man manhood,’ stunned by how ginormously large it is. She hesitates putting this footlong into her mouth, dazed by its un-fish-like gaijin musk. Still, she tries, much to the delight of the man. In fact, he is so pleased he preemptively rewards her with a extra large strawberry daiquiri— a cocktail— served alongside his cock.

It’s such a juvenile concept, and barely even a play on words. It does not even look remotely appealing with the dick just floating on top of the drink. But the mundane goofiness of the situation, combined with the excellent perspective, just make this scene hilarious to me.

Takumi drinks away, slurping up the cocktail, licking the now strawberry-flavored penis, and teasing the head with her tongue, titillating it, and the frenulum (the most important part), but not going all the way. At least, until the man pours the rest of the cocktail down her throat and sends in his dick as a chaser, forcing the booze down and sending his dick in as deep as it could go. It stretches her esophagus so much that she’s on the cusp of barfing her guts out. …But because this is Takumi, she loves this, sucking him off and delighting in the weight of the sperm as it oozes into her stomach, calling this man amazing.

Next comes Black guy number one, and the sex with him is a lot less funny. He’s a big hard man who leans back and lets Takumi do all the work, pulling off her pants, sliding onto his cock, and work that shit cowgirl style. She’s elated by the girth and length before her, so much so that she wants to please him because… that’s the right thing to do?

After all the sex seen before this point, there is not much unique to this scene other than the fact that Takumi is drawing a crowd of people recording this interracial fuck sesh on their smartphones so they can tweet it out for clout. …Wait, did the timeline slip again? Noooooo! We’re operating on a webcomic timescale now! I hate it when that happens!

Viewing the chapter seriously though, this is an addition that I ultimately like and think enhances the story. It shows Takumi willfully embracing a world full of sex, delving into greater taboos in her culture, and embracing something new. This is a good story to include in Takumi’s transformation into a nymphomaniac. …I don’t know exactly where it should fit in, as this is tame compared to the sexy monkey dance, but it has enough absurdity, enough spectacle, for it to be a welcome addition.

…And then on the next page of Append 2.0, the reader gets jumpscared by Takumi having a threesome with two pigs. Just… what the fuck Shindo L? Could you not? Could you just not feature something like this? Because this is just disgusting. I don’t want this to be on my computer or be associated with an account with my credit card number. I was going to show a version censored with Shindo L’s face, but nah. Natalie.TF has standards!

Chapter 5.1 (Append 1.0): Our Little One

Chapter 5.1 picks up on December 11 of year 2 and builds upon the epilogue of the main work by establishing some key details. Anri is still in high school, finishing up her final exams and suffering through cram school every day. Takumi has fully acclimated to her life as a housewife and mother. Even attending mommy meetings in the park every afternoon. …Which is major character growth for Takumi, showing that she has the capacity to actually learn new skills that are not based around sex. Well, at least not directly.

Anri arrives home late this night, and in another meme moment, she chooses Takumi over bath and dinner, pounding her wife while Ryousuke waddles in the background, staring at his two mommies with an incredulous gaze. Anri states that she has not had sex with Takumi in over a week because of how busy she has been, and as she penetrates her, she says that Takumi has been having sex with strangers. Takumi denies this, but knowing how much of a nymphomaniac she is, that is more likely than not. Though, I would say that is Anri’s fault for not caring for her disabled wife. She’s a biological sex addict and you’re not fucking her every night with your monster cock? That’s a no-no!

Also, another potential no-no is the choice to keep Ryousuke present throughout so many of the sex scenes in this stretch of the series. Because he is a baby being positioned in the same frame as such intense sexual imagery, I am genuinely curious if this breaches some kind of child pornography law. Ryousuke are not doing anything sexual, but he is present. Is that enough to trigger some legal issues. I mean, a work like this could already get in trouble for just, you know, lying about how old the characters are. …Actually, what the hell am I saying? It’s 2025. We live in a post-law society.

The rest of the chapter then follows Takumi and Anri as they go through a night of sex. Takumi sucking her off, them sharing a bath where they have sex for at least half an hour. Before having bed sex for about five hours. …Yeah, I don’t care how good the sex is, that is just dangerous and irresponsible. You guys have a baby you need to take care of, and Anri has school in the morning. You can’t be fucking until 4:15 in the morning!

However, for a sex addict like Takumi, this is the ideal life, where she gets plenty of stimulation from someone she loves, and has a baby to suck off her nipples in the meantime. After Anri leaves for school, she awakens to a new day, ready for whatever’s in store for her… but then Ryou and the Rape Squad come knocking on her door.

Chapter 5.2 (Append 3.0): Back to the Basic

Takumi, despite her better judgment— I don’t think she has any— lets Ryou and the Rape Squad into her home, seeing it for the first time and making their intentions known. They’re here to fuck her for old time’s sake. They don’t care that she’s married, don’t care that she has a baby— in fact, that just makes it hotter to them. Now they’re fucking wife pussy!

Takumi does not want to cheat on Anri, especially after fucking her for six hours last night— girl, how can you even walk— but Takumi is a weak creature, and quickly succumbs to the free cocks before her. Even though they have the same face and basically the same name.

After going some nebulous length of time without having sex with men, Takumi finds herself elated by the Rape Squad’s latest gang bang. Delighting in the hardness and musculature of these kinda schlubby looking dudes, their shoulders, and her own desire to submit to them, being their bitch. So, she does, gets them off, and then does it with Ryou on the couch. The two confess their love for each other in a way that I think is meant to look like an affair, but isn’t, and per Takumi’s request, Ryou starts strangling her for old time’s sake.

The oxygen deprivation is so extreme that she nearly breaks her spine out of elation when she’s done. Satisfied by their work, the four men then politely leave the house covered in cum, condoms, and mess, Takumi panting on the floor, her tank top still clung around her shoulders. Ryousuke was also left to roam free so… that child definitely tried eating condoms and licked some semen thinking it was milk. I’m not even trying to be gross when I say that, I just know what babies are like. If you give a baby a condom, they’ll choke on it!

Before Takumi can collect herself, Anri shows up and sends her in a flurry to clean up everything, but the second Anri enters, she knows what happened. …Because, one, it’s obvious, and two, in chapter 6.3, we learn that Anri specifically requested these guys to come fuck Takumi. Which I am inclined to believe was always the plan, because why else would the Rape Squad, who attended Takumi’s wedding, use condoms? They’re not condom enjoyers!

However, Takumi does not know this and— rather than tell the truth, that she got raped by a veteran Goon Squad— Takumi lies. …And Takumi is a dummy, so they are obviously bad at it. She says that she was exercising, Anri gives her an out, an opportunity to confess what she was doing, but Takumi doubles down on her lies, saying she was masturbating. Dummy, you put the condoms in a trash bag under the couch! Anri then starts having hallway sex with Takumi and, for lying, she starts strangling Takumi with her own hair, mocking her for getting aroused when being “bullied.” Takumi, naturally, loves this, her eyes turning into hearts as her wife suffocates her.

Through antics that… I just don’t have the patience to describe at this point, Takumi is left as a sexed-out mess, begging for semen, saying she wants to get knocked up. With an in utero shot, we then see that a sea of sperm are trying to penetrate Takumi’s egg… which should have happened months before now, shouldn’t it? Like I said in the last showcase, there is no way that Anri didn’t have sex with Takumi hours after she gave birth.

In fact, wait, this would be December 12th still, right? So, wait, they definitely should have had enough time to… oh no. I think it’s finally time. Finally time for THE TEST!

Rather than relying on an ambiguous timescale, TSF Monogatari features several measurable time skips, giving readers a number of months to measure events while also providing dates in Append 1.0. Only Append 1.0, curiously. I’ve been telling you to keep track of the dates throughout this showcase, and it’s POP QUIZ TIME! That’s right perverts, degenerates, scholars, freaks, and D-bags! But don’t worry, the quiz is very simple, has one question, and I will be grading you on effort.

Question 1 of 1: What is the timeline of TSF Monogatari? When did each chapter take place? Specify the month of each event.

This is an open note test, you can check your own book, you can check everything I’ve written up until this point— but if you use ChatGPT or some other AI trash, I will fail you on the spot.

OKAY! That’s long enough, so let’s look over some of my notes on each chapter to make sense of the timeline.

• The story technically begins in November of year 0, as this is when Takumi would have entered a coma during their intensive cancer-curing medical procedure, as we know from chapter 1.0 that Takumi has been in a coma for four months.
• Chapter 0.1 takes place entirely on March 21 of year 1, four months after Takumi entered a coma. This also represents the day Takumi “became a girl” in a literal sense, but because chapter 0.1 was added later, the later instances seem to view the start of chapter 1 as the day Takumi transformed.
• Chapter 1 takes place an undisclosed amount of time after Takumi left the hospital, but I think it would need to be at least two weeks, because rehab takes a while, so let’s just say it takes place sometime in April. This includes the start and following weekend where the chapter ends.
• Chapter 1.3 appears to take place sometime during chapter 1, so it would also take place in April
• Chapter 2 takes place a month after Takumi’s transformation, so should either takes place in late April or early May.
• Chapter Extra Takumi & Ryou takes place on the same day as chapter 2, and this is implied to be when Takumi was impregnated by Ryou.
• Chapter 2.5 takes place on May 12, and giving us a date to gauge the surrounding chapters.
• Chapter 3 picks about two weeks ago after chapter 2, per the line “my period should have ended a week ago.” We don’t know how long Takumi’s periods are, but two weeks seems like a safe estimate.
• Chapter 3 ultimately spans several months, and the final segment takes place three months after Takumi’s transformation. Meaning it must take place in June or July. Which is important, as this is when Takumi drops out of school and learns she is pregnant.
• Chapter 4 resumes a month after Takumi learned that she was pregnant, so July or August, and despite being 2 to 4 months a few months pregnant, Takumi is looking the same as she always has.
• Chapter 4’s second time skip is where things start getting confusing. The Rape Squad say that Takumi stopped showing up in November, and that it is currently February of year 2. This does not add up with the timeline, as Takumi should have been at least six months pregnant in November. She should have been impregnated before May 12th. And if three months have passed, Takumi should be due to give birth any day now.
• Chapter 4’s third time skip gives us two new metrics. Five months have passed since Takumi left home, and it is already summertime. Meaning we should be, at least in June of year 2. Because Summer does not start until June. Meaning Takumi would be 13 months pregnant at this point.
• Chapter 4’s fourth time skip picks up a nebulous amount of months later, but Takumi’s son, Ryousuke, has been born.
• Chapter 5 jumps forward after an ambiguous amount of time has passed. It could be a week, could be three months, and it does not really matter at this point.
• Chapter 5.1 opens on December 11 of year 2, taking place 8 days or more after chapter 5, and continues into December 12.

Based on all these facts… this don’t make no sense! Shindo L did not do a good job maintaining temporal continuity with his work. While some of it could be explained by Takumi getting impregnated later on in the story… she is such a slut that she would have gotten impregnated within her first two months of being discharged, no question. Plus, why would you not show Takumi’s impregnation?

How does someone capable of such immense, impressive, and captivating artistic feats screw up something like this? Especially when it would have been SO EASY to change these dates around or just omit these markers! GARF!

Chapter 6.0 (Append 3.0): Brand New Day!

Capping off Append 3.0 with more of a teaser than a full chapter, the long-haired member of the Rape Squad goes to Ryou’s apartment to wake him up for a fuck sesh with Takumi. But as the panels pan downwards, we see that Ryou has been fully transformed into a woman. One with a tall frame, smaller breasts, and hair that has retained the same stylish fade along the sides and back. He wakes up drenched in sweat and tells the bastard to keep it down… before looking down to see what happened to him. He slams the door shut behind him, examines his new bits briefly, and realizes there is only one person who could be responsible for this. Takumi.

Chapter 6.1 (Append 4.0): What’s Up Sisters

So, this is where the appendices start getting interesting. Up until now it has just been the continued sexual misadventures of Takumi and her wife, but here we have the start of a sequel TSF story. The start of TSF Monogatari 2 if you will. Where, rather than focusing on Takumi— because what else is there for her to do but fuck more and have more babies— the mantle of protagonist falls on the freshly transformed Ryou.

This is a more intriguing concept, as we might not have known Takumi before her transformation, we do know Ryou… or, do we? We know that Ryou is a stronger, more masculine man than Takumi, and we know how… murky their relationship is. Remember Ryou nearly killed Takumi and the re-establishment of their friendship, happened off-screen. We also do not know that much about him. What he does. What he likes beyond sex and his friends. Still, just having someone with a different personality could lead to very different stories, and with Ryou having someone experienced to show him the ropes of being a woman, his story would be inherently different.

Chapter 6.1 properly begins with Ryou realizing he has been unconscious for days, his futon was stained by kilograms of sweat he must’ve expelled to get so skinny. And none of his old clothes fit his tall supermodel-esque frame. So, he calls Takumi and Anri for some answers, while and Doctor Taijiri tagged along for good measure. While the doctor is not completely certain, they reach the conclusion that, because Ryou had sex with Takumi so shortl after her transformation a viral vector entered inside of Ryou, laying dormant for the past… two years or so, before finally emerging.

Which sounds like a great premise for a global-scale TSF story, where there is an undetectable sex-changing STD that takes two years before it kicks in! It would be far more complicated than, say, TS Revolution, but that’s not a bad thing, now is it?

Also, do you remember how, in chapter 4, I mentioned that Ryou was sulking and tired? Well, that might have been foreshadowing for his transformation. He could have been infected with this, and his body’s immune system could have been weakened as this thing worked its way through his body, waiting however many months to act. …Now, I do believe Shindo L was planning that far in advance? Hell no! But I feel obligated to mention this theory.

Regardless, even though Taijiri has the means of undoing the transformation, Ryou’s change is too recent to attempt it, so he’s going to need to go on with his “normal routine.” Said routine involves working a construction job that— wait, did Ryou graduate? Did Anri graduate? Because high schoolers typically don’t get jobs like this. You couldn’t even casually mention that anywhere? Is there something wrong with the writing here?

Well, I think there might be. Append 4.0 and 5.0 were actually translated by Shikimaya Publishing, rather than Fakku, and they have certain creative changes, like calling the series TSF Story and referring to Ryou as Ryo. Those are minor, but there are also what look to be continuity errors. Like how Takumi says Ryou believed her when she changed when… no, he did not. He raped Takumi because he thought that she was someone pretending to be Takumi. Takumi also says that Anri’s family helped her out with school and the hospitalization she went through. When Takumi was hospitalized before befriending Anri, and is presumed to be a high school drop out. What is going on here?

Regardless, Anri is a rich girl and her family owns Ryou’s employer, so she can arrange something for him. But more than that, she’s interested in this new boy-turned-girl she can feminize. Musing about the wardrobes she can pick out for him, the styles she can find, and all the things he has yet to learn. Ryou, still viewing himself as a man, freaks out about this and says he’ll never be like Takumi, only for Takumi to nudge him, saying that being a sex addict is a lot more fun than he’d expect. Though, Takumi is not a good gauge on this. She is addicted to sex, and we don’t know if Ryou has the same condition. I mean, his hair didn’t even grow!

Ryou then heads off to the construction site the next day dressed in what has to be the worst possible outfit. With a tank top three sizes too big tied against his waist. No bra to speak of. Baggy pants that could easily get caught on any number of things. Shoes that definitely do not fit his smaller feet. Still, the foreman seems to think that Ryou is fit for work, and… he tries. While Ryou maintained some of his height, he lost his muscle and now struggles to carry things he normally did with ease, becoming a hot sweaty mess, letting his nipples show, and causing his co-workers to pop boners as he walks through the site.

If you know hentai, you know where this is going. At the end of the work day, the men at the construction site— tired, pent up, and horny— approach Ryou, blame him for making them horny, and demand that he do something about it— with his body! Ryou tries to fight, but he is just a weak female and cannot resist the burly males looming over him. He tries to fight back, but it’s no use. The men begin pouring their hands over Ryou, jamming their fingers wherever they please. He tries to resist, but… he ultimately has the same condition as Takumi… meaning that this is yet another TSF nymphomaniac story, just with a ‘tomboy’ protagonist.

Oh well… so much for that!

Chapter 6.2 (Append 5.0): Girls In Summer

While Ryou seemed ecstatic after last chapter, this chapter opens up to see him sulking in his room, trash and bags scattered about, his mailbox full, musing over how he cannot go to work or even go outside after what happened that night. He hated seeing himself like that, seeing that he was capable of becoming just as much of a slut as Takumi. He is a man, and cannot accept that this is his life, that this is his future. Ryou has been locked up in isolation for weeks based on how much his hair has grown, and all he can do is wait out his life, screaming when the memories invade his mind.

This is a good bit of drama. It shows that Ryou is still clinging onto his masculinity despite what he experienced, traumatized by what he did, and so terrified of what life is now like as a woman that he has become a shut-in. It’s something that is strongly unlike anything seen in this series up until now and shows that this second story might have some different ideas.

…But then Ryou storms out of the house after someone bangs on his wall, and he’s greeted by a platonic ideal of a fat ugly bastard. I’m just going to call him Mister Fubby. Ryou tells him off, acting like he’s still his former self, but the man instead remarks at how girls these days have no shame, and Ryou becomes aware of how his nipples are plainly visible, and his boxers are falling off his legs. His conviction crumbles in an instant, and he rushes back into his room, while Mister Fubby licks his lips, thinking of how much he wants to rape Ryou. …Okay, he says “she was pretty hot” but I’m just reading between the lines.

Realizing that he needs some help, Ryou then contacts Takumi, but she’s currently fucking Anri, getting her pussy eaten out. After Takumi checks her phone, Anri brings up the night Takumi went to check on Ryou, and Takumi clams up, not wanting to admit that she cheated on her wife… again. For continuing to lie, she lets her cock go wild inside Takumi, glushing and crushing it with vigor while they have a somewhat muddled conversation. The gist is that Takumi wants to teach Ryou to love cock and love sex as a woman. Takumi thinks Anri, owner of the most destructive cock in all the land, should be the one to educate him to the good life. …Then they go about fucking for 20 pages straight.

Takumi and Anri then head over to Ryou’s house, where he is in the midst of crying while watching Pixar’s Up (2009), showing that the effects of this transformation are emotional and hormonal as well. …Another thing that we did not really see with Takumi’s transformation. Recognizing Ryou as a hot mess, Takumi and Anri decide it’s finally time for them to help get his shit in order. They clean his room, buy some feminine hygiene products for him, and take him to a bath house, leading to another set of my favorite stretch of scenes in the entire manga.

I love how Ryou panics as he is sent into the female baths, blocking his eyes with his hands as he is forced to enter, but when he finally opens them, he just sees a regular-ass changing room. A mother and her daughter leaving for the pool, and two more ladies taking off their bras, just as normal as can be, but this man— who has fucked women before— is left trembling at this mundane site.

Then the three compare their naked bodies, with Anri looking at Takumi and Ryou, having longer, smoother legs than her, and wishing that she was born a man and became a woman later on. …All while holding onto a towel that barely obscures her futanari cock. A cock that makes Ryou flee out of the room. This could have been the start of some erotic public baths nonsense, yet instead the three just go about things like civilized people, soaking in the tub, and washing each other, while Anri drops the line “I guess transsexual women are more womanly than natural women.” Which… lol. Once fully clean, the trio finally head out and start clothes shopping for Ryo, and we are treated to a brief fashion montage as Ryou tries to find his style. An ill-fitting tank top Ryou doesn’t wear properly. A diamond pattern button-up vest with a leather back. Pants with stylishly placed holes in them. A choker. A bracelet on the left arm. And no bra to speak of.

Huh. I have not talked much about Shindo L as an artist throughout this showcase, as I think his work speaks for itself. He has his own unique tells and stylizations that cause his work to stand out, and his skills as a draftsman, illustrator, and comic creator are all consistently impressive. I’ll admit that the earlier chapters can look a bit squishy and weird with their expressions, with character details morphing between panels or pages, but I actually like the level of expression it offers. His style naturally refines over time, but no matter the era depicted, it looks consistently, at a minimum, good.

My favorite thing about his artwork is his expressions, which should not be a surprise. I’ve come to learn that’s my favorite thing about most comic artists’ works. But I also really appreciate the amount of care and thought that he puts into character outfits, at least when they are more than just a uniform or a T-shirt and trousers. Hell, I’ve actually stolen outfits he’s created for my novels. …But Ryou’s debut outfit, the basis for their outfit for the rest of the series? This sucks. It’s too flashy for the character. It does not look like something a real human being would want to wear. It does not look practical, comfortable, or even attractive. Like I said, it looks like something a rich person would wear if they want to look like a poor.

However, narratively this outfit is supposed to cause every man across Shibuya Scramble to turn the heads. Ryou is visibly discomforted by the gazes they are getting, and Takumi only makes it worse, urging Ryou to imagine their dicks getting hard and rubbing against their face, which is enough to get Ryou’s pussy glushing, as seen through their pants. …Oh, so that’s why they have holes in them, so you can see the pussy juice trickle down! Still a bad design per my oh-so-lofty standards.

With Ryou down bad for some sexual relief, Anri and Takumi show him to one of the local love hotels. Which I’m 90% sure is meant to say that Ryou has embraced their newfound ‘womanhood’ so welcome to the she/her club for the final chapter!

Chapter 6.3 (Append 6.0): Happy End to be Dropped

Append 6.0 came out a full four years after Append 5.0, so the story appropriately begins with a bit of clean up. Ryou and Takumi, both sporting new outfits and slight redesigns, catch up and go over some questions I’m sure readers had. They clarify that Takumi is pregnant and Anri is definitely the father. And Ryou explains that Anri gave her and the Rape Squad permission to have sex with Takumi whenever they wanted, so long as they wore their damn condoms. Because Anri knew that Takumi would always go back to her.

After this, the main thrust of this chapter comes into play and… it kind of sucks. Takumi and Ryou both visit a premium sex toy shop together, looking for the best sex toys for their highly sensitive bodies. They gawk over dildos, mock a store worker for getting a stiffy upon seeing their tightly wrapped asses, and chat about what their ideal sizes would be.

They also ask to purchase a giant double-headed dildo on the wall the store manager, a former sexual partner of Takumi from… somewhere, but he instead brings out a giant purple monster dildo with spikes all over it. Then the story spends 20 pages on an assisted masturbation scene, where the store manager, and his assistant having the store managers fuck Takumi and Ryou using this monster dildo, because what else could be done at this point?

I could go into detail, but frankly, I do not care at this point. This is just two unflattering representations of sex store workers spitting on the faces of clients while shoving crap in their pussies. It’s still a spectacle of sorts, but one that is too grounded in reality to be fun to watch. It doesn’t add anything new to the narrative or characters, it’s just a new type of sex for them to indulge in. After going through all the sex in this comic, I don’t want to see a sex for a solid week!

After getting sexed the fuck up, which is saying something considering who they are, the two wander the streets with hazy eyes, their belts undone for easy removal, each carrying a bag full of sex toys. …Which sounds like a great scenario for an alley rape scene, but Shindo L fortunately restrained himself. Takumi presumably arrives home safe and sound, while Ryou arrives at her apartment and proceeds to masturbate for several hours… as Mister Fubby watches her from a peephole.

Fubby continues to watch her until she falls asleep and, once satisfied, he sneaks into her apartment, cracking open the Rapists’ Playbook as he escalates and continuously justifies his actions. Ryou was making a lot of noise, so she must have been inviting him. She does not resist his sloppy kisses, so she must like them, even though she’s asleep. And since they kissed, that means they’re practically lovers, so it’s perfectly okay to put his surprisingly normal penis into her.

Ryou wakes up none the wiser, only feeling a slight sting in her pussy from Fubby’s rough rawdogging, and promptly heads to work. At first it seems that Ryou is simply continuing business as normal, still working construction, just avoiding certain activities. …Then we see that she is doing double duty as worker relief and a worker herself, sucking dicks in the porta potty. I sure hope Ryou is getting paid extra for that, girl. Sucking dicks is one thing, but doing it in a porta potty is worse than doing it in a boxfort. At least boxforts are made for humans.

Afterward, the story repeats itself. Ryou heads home, plays with her toys, and Fubby comes in, threatening to make some “sweet, sweet love.” …And that’s the end as of 2022.

Shindo L states in the postscript that the rest of the story will be done next time— specifically an encounter between Ryou and the ugly bastard neighbor, and double-headed dildo antics involving Takumi and Anri. However, neither of those things sound particularly interesting to me, and… it seems that Shindo L has lost the plot.

This is TSF Monogatari, a story of men who were transformed into women (with bodies drastically hungry to sex). Yet, at this point, there’s not really anywhere for the characters to go, anything for them to do, without introducing a new conflict of some sort. Takumi’s story ended in chapter 5.0. Ryou’s story basically ended in chapter 6.2, and the premises Shindo L is infatuated with here— sex toys and Fubby the sleep rapist— are pretty boring concepts for a series that that was trying to be wild, if not unhinged.

TSF Monogatari Append – The Final Verdict!

Having gone through all of that, discussed every major contribution, do I think TSF Monogatari Append is good— No, I don’t.

Okay, okay, I am being just a teensy bit flippant, jumping to the conclusion like that. In truth, the series has a lot of ups and downs. I think that the 0.1 chapter is a very good start to a TSF story, just in general, capturing Takumi’s confusion and uncertainty well, showing off a believable level of hesitancy around their new body, rather than just masturbating from the get-go. …Except, as a prequel chapter, it contradicts what we see in the actual first chapter of the series by implying Takumi received any training or support when… they didn’t.

For as exploitative and fetishized as chapters 1.3 and 3.5 are, I think they slot nicely into the series and are a perfectly good addition to Takumi’s journey to become a degenerate sex addict, showing her pursue a ‘greater taboo’ with gusto. Despite the more mundane club setting, the presentation of these activities make them feel meaningful, like they truly impacted Takumi’s life and sexual appetite.

I think that the decision to tell a secondary story with Ryou, while undermined by turning them into Takumi II (Tomboy Ver.), is an interesting concept that is played off very well in several scenes. It roughly ends on a sufficiently satisfying note with Chapter 6.2… while chapter 6.3 just feels unnecessary. In fact, unnecessary is the operative word for most of this expansion. It certainly adds things, and makes efforts to push the story forward. But considering the broad escalation of the original, the pivot to the extreme and absurd, Append feels like it is just going through the motions much of the time. Scrounging for new sexual scenarios that the series can pursue, new ways for Takumi to get fucked, even though she already exceeded the limits for a regular human, much of this feels performative.

Whatever grand vision Shindo L had, assuming there was one, is unfortunately lost on me, and my opinion of the works is not enhanced by the inclusion of all the additional guest art. Sometimes it is funny, charming, or endearing. Yet much of it is rooted in a form sexual degeneracy that, frankly, I do not care for. I do not need or want to see Takumi get duped into being a sex slave or getting dick-nipples. Show me something fun! Like Takumi getting transformed into a toilet. …Or an onahole. …Or put her in a bunny girl outfit and hook her up to a fucking machine in a casino while people throw money at her. …Or shove a dozen eggs inside her asshole. I don’t know!

Much like with the original series, pretty much everything Append does feels like something that has been or could be done better by another creator, or if it were approached with a more deliberate, considerate temperament. I know Shindo L is capable of that— I have read Metamorphosis— but, evidently, he does not view TSF Monogatari as a place for deliberation or exploration of much beyond whatever sexual antics captivated him at the moment. He had many opportunities to course correct, to add greater depth to the desire, but… he just didn’t feel like it.

TSF Monogatari (Anime) by Office TakeOut

Seeing as how I am talking about TSF Monogatari, I figured that I may as well talk about the two episode anime adaptation, released by Office TakeOut in 2011 and 2012. A series that was weirdly difficult for me to find in a readily accessible downloadable format, much less an official one, but I was able to find a copy in the Neo Columbian On-Line Public Library of all places. You might not be able to find it using their built-in search, but with the power of a separate search engine, there are treasure troves that have only ever been seen by, like, eighty people.

However, there is a limit to what I have to say about this series. The anime is a slightly transformed and abridged version of the original TSF Monogatari manga— exclusively the first four chapters— and the biggest points of interest I have is what changes in the art of adaptation and how it changes the experience. Because certain scenes are added, others are removed, and the presentation changes do ultimately alter the experience. Giving characters like Takumi a generally more brash and ‘tomboyish’ voice and giving Anri a high, almost squeaky voice, change how their characters are read throughout the story as it imposes details and personality that was otherwise implied through writing.

By committing to the art of animation, the series cannot afford the same level of detail and expression seen in Shindo L’s artwork. Instead, it adapts the scenes with a more general and blasé style. Whenever it directly copies the composition of the original, something it often does, it looks like a generally cheaper rendition of the original, despite being in full color. That is not to say it looks bad— I think it looks better than, say, Master of Martial Hearts for as faint praise that may be. And by the standards of cheap manufactured hentai, I would say it is about average looking.

It lingers on shots for notably long lengths of time, particularly erotic ones, as if it is trying to give the audience enough time to bust a nut. The lighting is very flat, as is the coloring, making everything feel dull or muted. The pixelated censoring of genitals makes them look like horrific alien appendages, rather than something you can find on Wikipedia if you know the right words.

The scenes meant to look erotic often look disgusting due to how little they resemble reality with flappy boobs that defy gravity. The X-ray shots look more gory than they look enticing due to the inclusion of too much detail. The gushing of sweat, pee, cum, milk— really, any bodily fluid, is rendered like it is meant to be unpleasant. Though the composition and framing is generally fine, only pursuing something loosely ambitious when the source material did so and they could copy the base pose.

I am inclined to dismiss it as a ‘technically superior’ version of the original that lacks the soul, artistry, and deliberate intent of the original— like an awful remake of a good video game. But there are quite a few narrative changes that make the story both better and worse, which I find to be… interesting.

There is an entirely new introduction where Takumi is driven to a hospital for an emergency procedure, narrating how he is going to die, which is strange, as Takumi has cancer. And cancer typically takes a while before it kills someone, even if it is spotted late. So Taijiri arrives, seemingly hours, if not minutes, after Takumi is admitted. Then, rather than have Takumi’s transformation take place over the span of months, Takumi is ka-girl’d in seconds, with a transformation sequence so expedient that it is just magic. Takumi’s eyes change shape and colors, her breasts plop onto her chest, hair pinkens and grows in a snap, the penis is slurped inwards, and her bones reform with only a latent wooshing noise. None of which Takumi reacts to or mentions, as she is too busy staring at Taijiri’s tits. When, bruh, look down at your own tits!

The visual language of anime implies that Takumi is sent off to school the following day, where scenes are skipped over and remixed. The class no longer embraces Takumi while she is at the front of the class, but that also means Ryou is not introduced as Takumi’s savior. Instead, Anri is the one who gets the boys to stop groping her, but we also lose out on learning they were classmates last year.

Rather than take Takumi out shopping, letting her find her own style, Anri bizarrely has Takumi come over to her house to try on and take some of her clothes, leading to an entirely new scene. One that does little but tell Takumi that she needs to wear women’s underwear going forward, and how the right underwear will make the boys clamor over her. …Which is a really weird thing to say, just in general.

For some reason, these words inspire Takumi to flaunt her stuff in front of her male friends— the Rape Squad— who similarly assault her, just in a more streamlined way that minimizes Takumi’s agency. She humors them when they get desperate, and then they proceed to rape her, fingering her pussy and shoving a dick into her mouth, just in more graphic and unsettling detail. Whatever horror angle of the original is underplayed, this sexual scenario is more driven by, well, porn logic. They have their way with Takumi, leaving her quivering while an excessive amount of come drizzles from her mouth, when we are greeted to Ryou. Who does not save Takumi from them, but instead warns the guys that they’ll get caught like this.

From the way Takumi says Ryou’s name, it’s clear that she knows him, but their relationship is ambiguous. The anime does not say they were friends, and you could easily just read Ryou as another member of the Rape Squad. Ryou then takes Takumi back to her bedroom, and we are treated to a version of the rape scene that capped off chapter 1, but with none of the subtlety. The lack of narration from Takumi makes it harder for the viewer to understand what is going through her head as she is thrown around by Ryou, and Ryou himself barely speaks by comparison.

I went into great detail about Ryou’s perspective during this scene last time, but all depth and subtlety was erased with adaptational rewrites. He doesn’t cry as he fucks Takumi! He doesn’t even leave out of shame when he’s done. He just watches as Takumi convulses on the floor, a cup of mayo squirting out of her vagina before she starts pissing on her rug. The adaptation transformed him from a character who regretted his actions and impulses into someone who… doesn’t.

After this scene, Ryou disappears from the story, only showing up again during the very end. We never see him have sex with Takumi again, he does not apologize in the extra chapter, as that was not adapted, and he does not look at Takumi with regret. He’s just this random implied friend who shows up, fucks Takumi, stares at her as she is in visible pain, and then leaves. What a fuckin’ asshole.

The first episode continues into the second chapter, and it is mostly a clean adaptation, barring a few changes. The first being how, when masturbating Takumi’s hands go from being lightly covered in blood to being drenched in thick goopy strands of the stuff in a way that looks horrific. The conversation that Takumi and Anri shared at the train platform was condensed and moved onto the train itself, and Anri is no longer reading a little book. Both perfectly acceptable changes.

Then, right as the train molestation begins, there is a new flashback scene where, after Takumi was transformed, Doctor Taijiri says that she has an increased sex drive, revealing this factoid before a prolonged sex scene, and within the first episode. It smartly addresses a criticism that viewers could, and should, have, while also breaking up the train scene with something different. We even get a scene where Taijiri blows on Takumi’s clitoris and makes her squirm like a child, adding some levity to an otherwise very bitter, unhappy, sequence.

After four minutes of Takumi having sex with a fat ugly bastard, the scene comes to an end, and the episode expands on the ending of chapter 2, having Anri directly ask Taijiri about the gene therapy that Takumi underwent. It’s a change that I am more mixed on. Having Anri directly ask about the gene therapy could get people psyched into thinking that the next episode would see this refined Japanese teenager become a guy, similar to how Takumi became a girl. But it also is a clearer form of foreshadowing and less vague that Anri’s offer to make a deal in the manga.

Episode 2 opens up with the last new scene of the adaptation, returning to school. Takumi —inexplicably now wearing a female uniform— is talking to Anri about how she is going to be hospitalized for some time, meaning Takumi is on her own going forward. It is a far more direct means of communication than in the manga, where Anri did not tell Takumi about her absence, leaving her to worry about her, and I think it strengthens their relationship. I’d say it is a good thing, but the anime writer felt it was necessary to mention that she still does not know what a period is. Which… Takumi, did you flunk out of health class? Or are gender issues in Japan so bad that boys don’t learn what menstruating is? If so… that explains the birth rate crisis.

As for the rest of the episode, it really is just a slimmed down and chopped up version of chapters three and four. The bathroom scenes that began and capped chapter 3 are cut, only leaving the montage of Takumi getting fucked across the school before she is molested on the train, lured to the love hotel, and then sent to the hot springs resort. Everything presented is lesser than it is in the manga, just with a lot less spectacle, silliness, and the slightly humorous undertone. Though, I do need to give the anime some kudos for finding a way to adapt four pages into 3.5 minutes. …Which probably isn’t that hard when so much of the scene is repetitive sex motions.

After this, the nurse hooks Takumi up to a stupid man’s idea of a gynecologist’s table and tells her she’s pregnant, but in a way that makes me wonder who the father would be in this continuity. Because if Ryou is the one who impregnated Takumi in episode one… why did she have a period a month later? Did she even have a period in this adaptation? Or was she just masturbating so much she started bleeding?

Going into the second half of the episode, the start of chapter four is skimmed over. Takumi is just on the streets now, looking to be a solid eight months pregnant, and gets picked up by a guy for some car sex. The context and background behind this scenario is just gone, and the viewers are left to fill in their blanks on their own. Did Takumi run away from home? Is she still going to school? What is her financial situation? All these details and more are just not in the anime adaptation. The sex scene itself is largely similar, but with worse framing and a confusing change that could be the fault of the unofficial translators. Where Takumi was willing to have anal sex for free in the manga, this version offers to pay her client which, ma’am, that is not how sex work works.

After this, Takumi heads to a net café, this time bringing with half a dozen melon breads— somebody thought the melon bread running gag was hilarious— and gets an email from Anri to come fuck her in a luxury suite. The following scene is probably the most faithfully adapted scene of the entire series, hitting most of the key notes, adapting many panels directly, or at least trying, before ending the same way. With these two transformed girls confessing their loves for each other, and a cut forward to their wedding. Except they cut the scene where Takumi confronts Ryou, so he is just walking her down the aisle like that’s a totally normal thing for a rapist to do.

Needless to say, the anime adaptation is just sorta whatever. It’s a limited and plain adaptation of the manga, clearly held back by time and budget in a way the comic simply wasn’t. While some of its changes did work out pretty well, the omissions and fixation on sex above all, while scaling back the spectacle, makes it a less enjoyable work in my mind. Still, hentai anime has a broader audience than ero manga, and without this adaptation, without it being spread across porn sites, the manga definitely would not have done so well. So that’s good! …I guess?

TSF Monogatari – The Final Thought

Having gone on this stupidly long 20,000 word journey, I am left with one conclusion. TSF Monogatari just is not very good. Not the original, not the appendices, not the anime adaptation. It’s pretty average overall, has some finer points that I’ve highlighted, but enough missteps and bizarre creative choices that I cannot say that I particularly like the series. The best thing I can say about it is that it went on to inspire better things.

Without TSF Monogatari, Shindo L would not have had the experience and knowledge needed to make Metamorphosis what it is, and Metamorphosis is an award-worthy triumph of the medium of erotic manga. Similarly, I truly believe that without TSF Monogatari, The TSF genre would not be quite as big as it is today. Through my years of searching, lurking, and bouncing around things on hentai sites, I can plainly see the inspiration.

I respect TSF Monogatari as a historically significant work, but that’s about it. While it peaks in moments and shines with certain ideas, the lurid fixations and wasted potential make it a work that, on its own, I consider largely average, and not something I would recommend for its own merits. I was right to dismiss it as middling five years ago, and now I have a damn thesis explaining why!
