Wherein I discuss Millennial-style woes and the untimely unveils of two expected corporate endeavors.

As I am steadily entering a new phase of my life, I have been looking towards the future, and making assessments of where I will be in the next few years, and in just about none of these forecasts of mine do I see myself being able to live on my own.  Not because of financial reasons— as I am a frugal person with no debt and the qualification to get a well paying and demanded job, or even because of my limited life skills, which I have been improving steadily over the past few years. It’s more because of familial obligations and expectations.  Basically, I am expected to take care of select family members as they age, and the best way to do so is to either regularly visit them or just live with them so you are always at their beck and call.

My biggest grievance with this set-up, aside from how they will inevitably get crotchety and demanding, because that’s what age does to people, stems mostly from the matter of routine.  When living with somebody in a familial arrangement, routine is largely dictated on accommodating those with seniority, and ensuring that they are doing what they want when they want. Which has been something of a grievance for me, mostly due to how much I dislike my current daily routine, as it does not optimize my free time, and shaves it off into these tiny increments where I cannot become invested in anything.

At best I can chip away at my weekly rundowns, gathering stories, and writing my thoughts on the matter.  Yet this week was a bit on the light side, with most publishers evidentially waiting for The Game Awards next week to make their announcements.  But in this digital age, there are so many moving parts that it is inevitable for said announcements to be leaked. Whether it be through the Playstation Network featuring cover art for Resident Evil 3 Remake, or the Australian Microsoft store revealing the existence of Xbox One ports for Bayonetta and Vanquish.

Now, the idea of a Resident Evil 3 remake is one that has circulated since Resident Evil 2 (2019) came out, which makes sense in a sort of roundabout way.  RE3 was originally meant to be a side story for RE2, it used a lot of the same technology, was set in the same general environment, and as of February 2019, it was the only mainline game in the series not available on modern platforms.  People were inevitably going to ask for it, so why not strike while the iron is hot, the buzz is positive, and there is plenty of established technology to use and build upon, rather than redoing a lot of work once the next generation is under way?  Then, with the series re-established, it can be pushed in yet another new direction with part 8 while people’s thirst for remakes is satiated for the time being.

As for the Bayonetta and Vanquish ports, this really is not too surprising.  Sega have previously revised these games for more modern hardware after having released quality PC ports back in 2017.  If anything, the only major surprise here is that it took nearly three years for these games to be brought to modern consoles, with the leaked release date for the double pack of both titles being February 18th, 2020.  As always, it’s great that these beloved action games will have the opportunity to live on in what will be backwards compatible ecosystems. But after the PC releases, which boasted very reasonable system requirements, I can’t help but look at this as just another port.  Well, one that is attached to a 10th anniversary that… means nothing.

Unfortunately, that’s all I have for this quiet week that was sandwiched between a holiday and a pair of announcement dumping grounds also known as The Game Awards and Sony’s sporadically held State of Play event.  So until then, seeya.
