13) The Lattice Method

Back in grade school when I was learning long multiplication, my teacher introduced my class to a method to simplify complex multi-digit multiplication problems into single digit problems known as the Lattice Method. It involves taking the equation, making a grid or rather a lattice, and then splitting the equation into several single digit multiplication problems, the answers of which are added up at the end to determine the overall answer to the equation. It was always my preferred method of multiplication, but once I started attending high school, none of my teachers understood what this method was or why I was doing it, and since then I have never heard anybody reference this method, at all. Which is weird because while it is a bit time consuming and requires a sizable amount of space to write out, it is a very easy and reliable way to calculate an equation. Anyways, that’s all I have to share this week. Time for video games!

Seeing as how I had a nice little buffer lined up for my reviews, I decided to finally tackle God Eater 2, after having cleared up God Eater Resurrection. However, it turns out that GE2 came out in Japan before GER, meaning that GER had mechanics that are absent in what was released as its sequel. Including an incredibly crucial one to the feel of its combat. Yet for some reason Bandai Namco chose to release GER in the west before GE2. (more…)

…I really hope Nintendo’s virtual console service for the Nintendo Switch is better than the dreck I’m dreading it to be. That is, what it has been in the past, with perhaps some nebulous and obnoxious downside that people expect from the company in the same way they expect a retarded child to make a scene whenever they are taken out anywhere. Just dump all the ROMs you have from prior systems on the service, make them cost very little, and make them all run well with modern emulator sensibilities. I mean, people can get all the SNES games on their phones in about an hour, and that needs to be considered when devising a service like this. Also, make Wii games available for sale, because the Joy-Cons can totally emulate the Wii Remote and nunchuk. (more…)

I’ve been doing this, a weekly rundown of the happenings in video game news, for about three years at this point. I used the segment as a way to interject my own petulant thoughts about the banal happenings in the video game industry and make use of hundreds of anime screenshots I was collecting. You know, back when I still watching and reviewing anime. It gradually descended into bitching in many respects, and despite my efforts to improve this over the past few weeks, I’ve become tired of the weekly rigmarole. So, I didn’t pay much attention to it after its launch, it’s flaccid whimpering launch, but it was pretty obvious to everybody that something bad happened in the Bundie offices when this turkey was being baked. Work is my reason for not doing a game review last week, and I will be sure that I have one ready this week, and probably two the week after, as I will dive into the visual novel bin upon completing Dark Souls. I have not been in the mood to write after waking up at 6:30, being put on a train, working for seven to eight hours, and then going on another train, arriving back home ten hours later, and only having about six hours before I gotta go to do my bedtime stuff. Sorry there was no review this week, I’m pretty swamped with work for the next month or so, meaning I am working full time, and Dark Souls is an 80 hour game, if not longer. Still, I released my novella, A Vile Doohickey, as a Christmas gift to the world, and released it on the 21st because it was done before my deadline. Oh, and I think Christmas is a good reason for a lack of progress in regards to anything, even if I did not really enjoy mine that much. It was a day where I got about $200, and spent about 73 of those dollars on Majora’s Mask 3D, Freedom Wars, an SD Card for my 3DS, and some bodily hair removal cream, as shaving one’s legs is annoying. E3 has come and gone for the year, returning next time for event number 21 during June 15th to 18th, but that is too far away to remember. Instead, it is enough to remember everything that happened, and what happened outside of the press conferences. Let’s see here… Bandai Namco’s going some indie stuff? Nah. Zynga has lost a lot of market share, but I don’t even care about them as a thing. Gamestop is closing many stores and shifting more to mobile, but I am going digital from now on, so I don’t really care a hair. Battlefield 4 is still busted, even after it came out six months ago. Just Cause 3 may be a thing, yet I found 2 to be super dull. A lot of people have played Watch Dogs and its story sounds loathsomely mundane for a game with giant robot spiders. Oh, and a bunch of people dug up some old ET cartridges… Yeah, it’s been a very slow news week. (more…)

Okay, I’m just gonna get the minor stuff out of the way in this intro. Bravely Default will indeed be the updated version when it comes overseas, as well as be a “demo” for the sequel coming in late 2014 if I had an inkling. Xbox One is coming out on November 22nd because it’s the Xbox 360’s anniversary. Dead Rising 3 continues to look more like a game worth playing, though it is here where I realize how much of a sexist asshole I am, as I would only want to play it as a female character. While Xseed is localizing the Legend of Heroes: Trails In The Sky sequel and PS3 redux. Which I’ll probably review sometime next year, as they will receive PC releases to boot. Also EA claimed they were being risky dogs because they’re making Star Wars video games. On with the show!
