Rundown (9/08-9/14) I Stan My Stand

In my reviews of The World Ends With You Final Remix and Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee I mentioned the difficulties I encountered when trying to play both these titles in handheld mode, and how I sought to remedy this through the use of the Nintendo 3DS Stand that came bundled with Kid Icarus Uprising.  It was something I was quite happy with, and cut forward about a year I am still using this stand regularly.  Yet rather than playing oodles of Switch games, I’m instead using it to prop up my smartphone so that I can play games without needing to hold something for extended periods of time.  Part of me feels that this is antithetical to the very idea of handhelds, since I am not holding them with my hands. Another part of me recognizes that I am enjoying games more by playing them my special way, so I’m going to keep doing that.

Rundown (7/14-7/20) Natalie and the Computer-Generated Flowcharts

It has recently come to my attention that TFGamesSite member nexoq developed a computer-generated flowchart maker known as Graphify that can take .rpy files for Student Transfer Scenarios and create a functional flowchart using them.  This is a far cry from needing to dig through the .rpy file oneself and playing the game to test for any and all possible path permutations, and it’s something that I will be using in the future to double check my work.  But I’m still going to make my usual hand-made Draw.io flowcharts since they look a lot nicer, are more space efficient, and have a more unified format. I mean, just compare the header image to this flowchart I made for the same Student Transfer Scenario.  But this is still quite amazing.  Thank you nexoq!

Over the past few weeks I decided to see what all the hubbub was about with Attack on Titan, and jumped into the manga, having previously watched the first season of the anime 6 years ago.  I found the series to substantially improve following the first few arcs. I enjoyed the way the story routinely shifts from a political thriller to a high octane visceral battle manga.  I was impressed by how the series managed to keep so many questions lingering, but gets to answering all of them eventually, and it answers them quite well. The art is detailed and distinctive the characters have some ingenuity to them, the writer clearly put a lot of forethought into the world building, and it’s overall quite riveting stuff.  So yes, the popular thing is good, I like it, and I’m looking forward to it ending… within the next year or so.

Rundown (7/08-7/14) No Child Can Understand the Past

Something that I noticed as being common sentiment amongst a few burgeoning adults whom I follow for their work is the idea that children of the culture and modern day will be and are unable to understand aspects of the past. Claiming that the idea of modern conveniences such as smartphones, the internet, and various services will be so ubiquitous with everyday life that they will be incapable of understanding an earlier era in human history. It is a notion that has always annoyed me, as it runs contrary to my experience as a young child, where I was able to understand the idea of a world without things like washing machines, electricity, and grocery stores from an early age. It was not a full understanding, but I was able to imagine what that was like and gained some understanding. I mean, if there is one thing about children that you should not underestimate, it’s their imaginations.

Rundown (4/08-4/14) To Be a Master!

So, you know how I’m an accounting major and how I previously mentioned that I am going to be done with school this August? Well, funny thing about that. In order to become a Certified Public Accountant, which is a goal of mine, one does not simply need a Bachelor’s degree as I thought. Instead, they at least 150 credit hours, which are best met by obtaining a Master’s degree. So, in short, I am going to start taking graduate classes this fall and should be done around December 2019, before then taking the CPA exam. And here I was looking forward to being done with school once and for all.

Rundown (4/09-4/15) Q1 2017 Was the Best Quarter for Video Games

Recently, discussions have begun about how 2017 might just be one of the best years in video gaming, as the first quarter of the year was home to an excess of stellar titles. However, I can’t help but find any of those claims to be a bit overly presumptuous, as the year is still beginning. But if people were instead talking about how Q1 was the best quarter in the history of gaming, then that it both entirely justifiable, and those people are probably right considering the number of great games that came out in those 90 days. The only one of which I played was Dragon Quest VIII… Man, I am really disconnected from the cultural zeitgeist. (more…)

Bread Wife by ONATaRTTime for an update regarding my narrative writings! First off, I am going to revise my two prior novels, Verde’s Doohickey and The Malice of Abigale Quinlan in the ensuing weeks, where I will remove red herrings and things that are distracting to the story or just do not work. I will also be rewriting one of my favorite story, Psycho Shatter, to better match my current standard of writing. Now, you may be asking why I am doing this. Well, my upcoming story, tentatively titled Psycho Bullet Festival: Please Bury My Children, has been encountering quite a few snags over the past few months, and I want to put out something in the meantime. Plus, I’ve wanted to do these things for a while, and I feel that is as good a time as any. (more…)

Rundown (5/15-5/21) Press T Switch

Press SwitchSo after two years of anticipation, Press-Switch, a body swap and tg focused visual novel that is also one of my favorite games of all time, is about to get its first update in two years. An update in the form of a single route that will effectively double the length of the game. It’s still months away, but once it releases, I’ll probably drop everything I have before going through all routes and writing a praise heavy review for the game. I could go on right now about how its characters are varied and memorable. Its scenarios nuanced and engaging. Its scope colossal and diverse. Its tone delightfully dark and even deprived at times. Along with how it influenced me as a writer. But I am a patient person, and can wait another seventeen months. (more…)

0 Haganai You Commited Plagarism feel badAfter seventeen years in the making, not really but it felt like it, I am finally done with Verde’s Doohickey, my novel for 2015, although I may put another one out on Christmas of New Years. Depends on how quickly I can write this far simpler story and how easily the dynamic between the two main characters flows, because I have been struggling to get the everyman and asshole dynamic right for years… Man, it’s only been a day and I’m already talking about my next thing. And E3 is done… Kinda. Yes, I know the first proper day just happened, but after the press events, my work is mostly done, and 90% of the announcements are out of the way. It’s just impressions from here on out, which is just dandy in my book. However, Nintendo, Square Enix, and AMD all had press conferences, so I’ll just get to explaining what the blazes they were about, and what my Autistic mind thought about them. (more…)

0 PM whoops my bad sorry mistook you for someone else wrong person next after you dead dying die deathSo, this week I tried Killer Is Dead, and it made me realize that I simply cannot play Character Action Games that implement a grading system, meaning most of them, as if you get anything beneath the highest score, well, you are just fucking up. But not just playing the game, oh no, you are going against the developer’s intentions and are objectively playing the game wrong, and by extension you are ruining an experience by being too shit to handle a challenge that the title very clearly stats should be no problem for normal people. I honestly don’t know if I hate it more than a lives base system, as that method is a vile outdated archaic disgusting loathsome evil punishment based system that was implemented in order to inspire mastery artificially increase game length. But if you dare waste a resource as precious as life, you probably don’t deserve to have your own, you miserable little sack of maggot infested cum, mixed with urine, STD infested blood, Ebola, and bug shit (more…)

0 Watamote I am Defeated and hate you wrong man for this screw yourselfSorry there was no review this week, I’m pretty swamped with work for the next month or so, meaning I am working full time, and Dark Souls is an 80 hour game, if not longer. Still, I released my novella, A Vile Doohickey, as a Christmas gift to the world, and released it on the 21st because it was done before my deadline. Oh, and I think Christmas is a good reason for a lack of progress in regards to anything, even if I did not really enjoy mine that much. It was a day where I got about $200, and spent about 73 of those dollars on Majora’s Mask 3D, Freedom Wars, an SD Card for my 3DS, and some bodily hair removal cream, as shaving one’s legs is annoying. Rundown (7/06-7/12) Apathetic Cynicism is the Baddest Feeling

0PGOS Bombs of outrage and angerI’m not sure what it’s been about this week, but I’ve been on edge for the majority of it. It’s not that anything bad happened, it’s just that I’ve been playing a title that no longer makes me feel feelings akin to joy, enhanced by how I played one of my favorite games in the past few months as a break from it. It also didn’t help that nothing much happened in the industry as the summer is a time to plow through game development for a winter or Q1 release window that cannot be changed. Well, things did happen and were said, but none of them were that good sounding, yet I suppose that can be considered the mainstay for this industry’s news. Or perhaps it is due to how cynical its audience has become after years of bullcrap pecking away at them affecting how they perceive a hobby they still love, but cannot see entirely past the layer of feces placed over it… or something like that. *Farts* (more…)

SF No, that would be bad and we do not want things to be poor when it is normal that should be good not poopyIf I haven’t plugged it enough, please go out and buy The Body of Raiyne! It is my first novel and is only a dollar, hell, it may end up being even less later down the line and for brief periods. In addition to that, I have started work on my next novel, which will sadly probably not come out until the year’s end, possibly even later if I go through my idea for the short story, Psycho_Shatter. Psycho_Shatter is a terrible idea as it features a main character with major mental problems that I will not research and will probably include a person being burnt alive in an oven. But I still want to do it in order to have a massive wanker of a protagonist be placed in situations where he just rants about everything while being the most fragile little shit I have ever conceived. But onto the video games!
