Despite not being the biggest fan of the series, and only having played through five games prior to this one, I actually hold a special place for Dragon Quest. It is a lighthearted and joyful RPG series with memorable scenarios, excellent designs, lovely music, and simple yet enjoyable gameplay. So when a new one came out, under the guise that its success will dictate whether or not the series will continue undergoing the lengthy and difficult process of localization, I naturally picked it up, got my hopes up, and… well, I’m incredibly disappointed, let’s put it that way. Rundown (6/15-6/18) E3 2016: But I Want More!

Well now, E3 2016 is done, and… it actually went really well all things considered. Sure, EA and Ubisoft didn’t offer much with their press conferences, and the PC gaming show was still a bust. But a solid showing from Microsoft and a quality, well composed showing from Sony, and a super in-depth showcase of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild made for a pretty good now. There were only a few major surprises, mostly due to a series of leaks, yet the number of things that annoyed me were at an all time low… which actually makes me really happy. (more…)

Partially because of my own sheltered nature, and the fact that I never go out because of school or work, but it’s always really exciting for me to hear random people talk about video games. Even if their conversations are a bit vapid and underdeveloped, as they are not as familiar with the language of games as I am. Still, I got to hear three people talk about Firewatch, and that brings me much joy in the medium as a whole as well as leading credence that the landscape of the medium is improving. Yes, it’s circumstantial evidence I’m using to backup a hefty claim, but it makes me feel a bit better about this medium. (more…)

Neptunia Re;Birth3 is taking forever because it is a Neptunia game and twice as long as it needs to be. Meanwhile, I have yet to touch Student Transfer, and now Higurashi Chapter 2 is out. I would start binging, but I have two papers due next week, and I need to work on a group project in addition to my next novel, so I’m a busy little buckeroo. I also want to buy my new computer parts soon, build it, and get my new PC all ready, but that may need to wait until after this semester… when I’m working full time for a month. I also want to come out as transgender, but am so terrified of worrying my poor mother that I feel I can’t. Also, I’m turning 21 on Wednesday. Growing up is hard! (more…)

My Punchline review will be next week, I fell into a bit of a rut where I felt that I would be unable to appreciate it properly and as such put it off. It is the reason why I do not go through games as quickly as possible, as I feel that I will not be in the right mindset and as such will have an inaccurate opinion on the show. I know that is a messed up way to view things, but it’s why I asked my mother if I could start going to a therapist. Along with the gender bullcrap that I have developed because I’m an idiot who cannot be happy when they have no true reason to be unhappy. (more…)

Well, TGS happened and I only really found stuff of interest in Sony’s pre-conference, as Japan is all about those smartphone games, or distractions as most of them are. Yes, yes, I suppose you could say that of all games, but phone games are made for brief distractions that do not leave any sort of impact other than using unsavory physiological manipulation into tricking people that they are having a good time…. how do I transition this into talking about how Aliens: Colonial Marines is still unravelling its story of lies and making Randy Pitchford look more like a scumbag?
