Rundown (7/30-8/05) Gamindustri Is a Bizarre Adventure

I’m looking over what I have to say this week, I think I can safely say that the game industry is a pretty weird place if you ignore most of the AAA fluff that goes about and dig a bit deeper. Just this week we have a Chinese imitation of a popular AAA game series published by a small scale American indie publisher. A studio collapsing due to a poorly received game that was locked in a vicious dec cycle. A completely failed attempt at crowdfunding that was picked up by a publisher of games based on children’s cartoons. A dancing rhythm game spin-off starting a character whose death is a crucial point in the story. And even a sexual harassment charge involving a boy who used to be a big deal on the G4 message boards. (more…)

Rundown (5/07-5/13) God Eating is Convoluted

Over the past week, I’ve been finishing up God Eater Resurrection, which I reviewed last year, and while I ultimately enjoyed the game over the 100 hours I have now invested into it, it becomes completely absurd after a point, with the game asking a lot of the player while explaining very little, simply presenting a series of mechanics to the player without much in the way of guidance or explanation of what the best strategy is, instead hiding behind the veneer or player freedom. It is a game that had be confused as to how to play it eighty hours in, and even as I am in the endgame content, it still baffles me with some of its challenges. I honestly hope things are better with its sequel, which I should be reviewing sometime this year. (more…)

Rundown (4/02-4/08) Nintendo is Memetic for Their Ineptitude

…I really hope Nintendo’s virtual console service for the Nintendo Switch is better than the dreck I’m dreading it to be. That is, what it has been in the past, with perhaps some nebulous and obnoxious downside that people expect from the company in the same way they expect a retarded child to make a scene whenever they are taken out anywhere. Just dump all the ROMs you have from prior systems on the service, make them cost very little, and make them all run well with modern emulator sensibilities. I mean, people can get all the SNES games on their phones in about an hour, and that needs to be considered when devising a service like this. Also, make Wii games available for sale, because the Joy-Cons can totally emulate the Wii Remote and nunchuk. (more…)

Rundown (11/27-12/03) I Caught ‘Em All!

vlcsnap-2016-11-10-00h37m54s727Over the past week, I was able to finally do something that was approximately 18 years in the making. I was able to catch each and every officially released Pokemon. With 721 unique monsters in my Pokemon Bank, and the newly introduced 79 all organized neatly in my copy of Pokemon Moon, I now have access to all 800 Pokemon, and feel immensely satisfied by that fact. I may not be the very best, like no one ever was, but I’ve completed my real test to catch them all and I’ve followed my case to train them. I travelled across the lands, searching far and wide. I now understand each Pokemon and the power that’s inside. (more…)

Rundown (11/06-11/12) Let’s Not Address the Elephant in the Room

vlcsnap-2016-11-13-11h06m26s288I’m going to avoid talking about the thing that happened over the past week and go on a completely unrelated tangent. Why do some Japanese developers insist on using 2D animated anime cutscenes in fully 3D games with a high level of visual fidelity and an anime-esque art style. It doesn’t happen much, but whenever it does, it always looks poor in comparison to anything done in-engine, as the level of detail in the models and the smoothness of the animations are better than anything that could reasonably done by an outside studio. Yet some games still make use of this practice, the first that come to mind being Catherine, Danganronpa: Ultra Despair Girls, CyberConnect 2’s Naruto games, Dragon Ball Xenoverse, and even the upcoming Persona 5. (more…)

chibi-vore-by-modesevenI have been investing far too much time into God Eater Resurrection over the past week. I’ve still been working on my writing stuff, but I found a hole of rewarding and good feeling gameplay for the first time in a while, and boy is it a deep and warm one. Though, that’s not to say my review of the game will be wholly positive. I mean, whenever I get around to it. I have at least four more reviews queued up before that. Also, the header image comes from ModeSeven, check him out if you love stuff that’s so weird it transcends being pornographic. Or is just plain cool and cute and good for childrens. (more…)

CookingWith a slew of leaks and early reveals out of the way, E3 has finally begun. By which I mean that EA is holding an event outside of E3 around the same time. The ever expanding Bethesda is getting early coverage by going one day before the press conferences traditionally begin. While Kadokawa games, a growing publisher that isn’t even having a proper press conference, just a private media briefing… Whatever, that’s good enough for me. (more…)

Vain
You can easily decipher this title, right?

Okay, so, I am working full time this summer, for those who do not know, or just stumbled onto this post, and that means I cannot spend all day in E3 mode. It makes my nights very hectic, as I try to pick up the piece right after getting home, but I went through Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, and Sony’s press conferences, amounting to over five hours of footage, while writing up some quick thoughts on the opinions on the video games, as I have been doing since 2012. Without further ado, I’ll just get right to it. (more…)

0 MLM HidingYeah, there will not be a review this week, as no game in my backlog grabbed my attention, and I felt into the Dark Souls New Game+ pit. I’ll try to get something up next week though. Cool, thanks, bye… Wait, not bye, because I have a rundown of things that I wanna talk about in the game industry. (more…)
