Wherein I discuss how I cannot complete a simple child-level task, a potential revival of a niche game series nobody actually cares about, a faux celebration by barons of incalculable greed, the Kotick-Epstein Connection, and a Semi-Dope Nintendo Direct.

Rundown (9/01-9/07) Natalie Must Remain Enigmatic

Something that might not be obvious from the deluge of personal information and historically hued anecdotes I offer throughout this jolly old website is the fact that ‘in real life’ I tend to be immensely reserved around others.  As in, I like to give as few personal details as possible, and only share said details when prompted. This applies from co-workers to classmates to even my immediate family, and my justification stems from a deep fear of rejection or being misunderstood by others.  I mean, I could tell them that I enjoy writing and video games, but those things could be wildly thrown out of proportions, and saying that I write novels and review games for a small website sounds a trifle bit bizarre to some people. So the way I view it, there is no winning and I ought to keep my mouth shut, lest I accidentally spew something problematic.

Rundown (9/09-9/15) Bonk This Bank!

This is such a petty thing, but the way Pokemon Bank subscriptions are handled really bothers me. At first I thought that if your subscription lapsed, you could more or less indefinitely recover your stored Pokemon, but no, they are erased from the server after a while, and then they are gone forever, which is utter nonsense, especially considering how renewing one’s subscription works. You need to wait until you have 14 days or less left on your pass before you can extend the subscription, and if you forget, say goodbye to whatever is in there. No email notifications, no nothing. I have a near complete Pokedex (I missed Marshadow a while back), a box of shinies, alternate forms, and a Ditto with 3 perfect IVs in there. Do you know how upset and fundamentally broken I would be if I were to lose all of that? More than a goldarn smidget.

Rundown (9/10-9/16) Video Games Can Hurt Sometimes

So, I recently picked up Metroid: Samus Returns, and while I enjoy the game quite a bit, I have one resounding problem with the game that is not the fault of the game. It’s that the original model of the 3DS is downright horrible for action intensive games. Maybe I am just clenching the system too hard, or not distributing my fingers properly, but after less than an hour with the system my hands started getting sore as the system dug into my palms and my fingers contorted themselves into an awkward claw so I could press the miniscule shoulder buttons. Maybe I’m just getting old, seeing as how it has been almost 4 years since I played an action game on the 3DS, but… wow does it feel bad to use. (more…)

Rundown (6/13) E3 2017: Prelude to Final Climax

Well, after two days of staying up obscenely late and writing approximately 7,000 words on video games announcements, I am getting fed-up with this whole charade that points out just how darn formulaic I can be with these Rundowns. I know that one of my weaknesses as a writer is my reliance on formula and a structure that I can base my writings about, and while I do try to break away from this when possible, it is far too easy to fall into a routine when doing something on a large scale. Anyways, E3 is almost done, and I just have Nintendo’s showing and a few more things to take care of. (more…)

Kirby Super Star Ultra Review

Kirby_Super_Star_Ultra_logoKirby Super Star Ultra is one of those games that regularly rings throughout my head whenever I try to pinpoint what my favorite games of all time truly are. A title that I remember as a purely joyous experience, and one that shines brightly as a more traditional Kirby game, when they tend to be solid and fun platforming affairs. Being a fickle and temperamental person, I chose to revisit and replay the title in order to remind me why I felt this way, and provide a review explaining why it is among my favorite games of all time. 0 GUP Oh shit crap potato chips wuzzatPartially because of my own sheltered nature, and the fact that I never go out because of school or work, but it’s always really exciting for me to hear random people talk about video games. Even if their conversations are a bit vapid and underdeveloped, as they are not as familiar with the language of games as I am. Still, I got to hear three people talk about Firewatch, and that brings me much joy in the medium as a whole as well as leading credence that the landscape of the medium is improving. Yes, it’s circumstantial evidence I’m using to backup a hefty claim, but it makes me feel a bit better about this medium. (more…)

Kirby Triple Deluxe Review

kirby-triple-deluxe2Oh boy, remember when I was going to go through and review every Kirby game ever made? No? Yeah, that’s probably a good thing. Point is that I like myself some Kirby and played nearly every game starring the pink puff ball, so its only natural that I’d pick up his latest adventure when Best Buy decided that a buy one get one free sale for first party Nintendo 3DS titles was something they’d have stock for.

Fuck E3

It is rather pointless for a little slice of nowhere blog with only a small number of views to do a summarization of the E3 press events, especially when they were not watching them live due to real life events, such as work. But I got home to catch the latter two, and catch up with the former before Nintendo did their event and managed to get everything done before Tuesday’s end… well after everybody and their brother did their own version of this, and often far better than my assorted ramblings that are made all the dumber by the insertion of anime screencaps. It’s Nigmabox’s third annual Super E3 Rundown!

Pokemon-XY-pokemon-34679625-1024-768…All of this? I only care about it a morsel as much as I care about Pokemon X/Y. I’ve been following the Neogaf thread about it and goddamn am I excited. I know, the “fun” is in discovering the new Pokemons you never heard of. Well, not for me. I’ve just been planning and preparing everything for my big rush into the Kalos region where I have the stupid, stupid, stupid goal of getting them all. Every poop licking Pocket Monster there is… Now, could one of you sexy young infants help me find my marbles? I’ll check and see if any flew up your assholes.
