As just one of the near millions of chumps who are trying to be topical about the video games, it is my birthright to talk about every major event in some way, shape, or form. Or whenever I feel like it. Sony had some big thing about a new console, so I might as well toss in my two cents into the 5 ton jar of pennies that is the internet. Written when I had an hour to burn.  But not enough time to bother with pictures, because I’m already thinking this was a bad idea as I’m posting.

How many anime reviews have I done in 2013 thus far? Four? A bit slow on my part, but that is because I have yet to see anything that necessarily wowed me. And there is nothing like seeing something that could potentially do that fall down into a sinkhole, but in a way that makes me feel like I read a book with missing pages. But more on that in the actual review, this time being a show that took a single letter for its name, because of reasons.

You know that feeling where you want to talk about something, but are torn and filled with mostly minor feelings, because the “something” is stuck in a variation of limbo? As well as not having an ending at all? Well, that’s where I am with My Little Monster, a show I originally desired to use as mouth wash for Sword Art Online, but made me question if it was the same studio who brought me one of my favorite series more than anything.

And I prepped up Nari’s Log as much as I could without losing interest. So learn some facts about my persona, since I normally try to be semi-”professional”. Now, I’ll be honest and say that I only watched this show because I thought it would be a neat challenge to deconstruct, since I like to do that with most things that are popular in a given circle. But this is probably the third most problem infested thing I’ve ever tried to review. The answer is both simple and complex as to why that is, so here’s my answer. With no actual images from the show, other than the best part. The random purple slug-men-rapists… I am not really making that far of a stretch. If only that were the rest of the show.

Okay, so this is the original page of Nari’s Log, which I originally intended to be a “magnum opus”, before I decided that I didn’t like the direction I set up.  So I redid the whole thing, starting from scratch.  Which you should be able to find if you just look up Nari’s Log.  Assuming I don’t do reboot it for a third time.  Besides, no one cared much about it, so I hope my other attempt will work more.  I mean, I condensed my first 12 chapters into 4.  I kept a lot, but I think I gave it more personality, because this one was getting dull to write for, because I didn’t plan very well.

Btooom-Trailer

Really? out of all the titles one could go with, what major studio would allow something named, BTOOOM! to be released? I know it’s minor and there’s the language barrier, but this just sounds off. Well, it has meaning in the show, but that’s besides the point. Titles mean very little, so I might as well dive into something I only looked into, because I wanted to see if it would manage to be a deconstructive examination on several tropes, or just be a victim of them. Well, neither, but hence the season one bit that I was unaware of when I began watching this show and I’m guessing you can tell why if you look at the title of this review.

Chunibyo_353x248

You know what I find to be something akin to frustrating about Anime? How I like to follow a completed story, and they all finish about the same time if you want to do the recent stuff. One could call this the start of a six part series on the selected Fall 2012 Anime I chose to review based on an interesting sounding premise or I hear Sir Tobbii talk about it. Instead of rushing to the most recent stuff, I’m starting with what finished first, before I finish, and have to do the whole thing once more for Winter 2013, while hopefully getting to the Berserk movie trilogy sometime between. But onto the review in question

I suppose every day is a beginning of some sort. However, today felt like something fresh, something new, something that I would probably regret twice as much as I would love it at the time. Maybe it was some misplaced optimism, or that I forgot how a hyper-intelligent Red Panda was in charge of my life. Now, I was not sure what I had to do in terms of exploring the OMNI, other than how I had to “Shift” into others. Still, if I didn’t wake up, I’d just be forced to do it.

The darkness seemed to last longer than before, likely due to how I succeeded in preventing this place from going down the pooper. At least I got to meet some others in addition to this utterly batty Red Panda. But onto my tale for this… Cycle, if it were.

Some might call me desensitized, and some might call me a fool. But either way, I think I did it. What was it? I dunno. Everything worked out well, or at least I hope it did. I normally have a good recollection of events, but here? Nu-uh. Yet, I can’t start anew until I tell you my story this time, as if I am talking to another lifeform. Hell, who’d even be observing these? The Doctor who is a talking Red Panda? I’d think he’d, yeah, I’m calling it a he, because I don’t know a gender-neutral term that flows as well, have better things to do. Seeing as how he was able to do all of this. I barely recall anything about where I was before I was in this “OMNI” place, but I think I’ve deduced that appearance was important over there. Part of me is grateful that I no longer am involved with such a place, but I know that is only to point out just how foolish they, and presumably myself as well, were. As someone who has been changing appearances all- Who am I kidding, I don’t have a sense of time any more! Short version, I found myself in the body of a child, with the objective to go to an area a few blocks away, and I had to wait there, sing, and get a bullet lodged into her head. Because that is a nice thing to do!

The first memory that I can recall happened only a few hours ago, when I woke up. I had no idea who I was, where I was, why I was there, why I was there- you get the picture. Sure, I still knew about certain things, yet most of it seemed to be picked out in a seemingly random order. I knew about language, writing, and common elements in storytelling, but no characters or actual examples. I knew mathematics up to Trigonometry, basic level Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, yet my knowledge of history was mostly devoid of dates, or even names. Even then it was pretty barren, to the point where I could not even recall where I was from. Or perhaps that was just the fact that I had some form of amnesia?

Disclaimer:  This post is contains images that are NSFW, because what it is a review of, is  also NSFW.  Why?  Because the show does not care, and why should I?

Now, I don’t know where this show came from, I just heard about it back when I was big into That Guy With The Glasses last summer, and watched through this thing after hearing that it was noisome. And there is no way to say this other than, yep, it is pretty much the worst show I have ever seen. If not the worst product of entertainment I’ve ever seen for sale, let alone get localized. But, explaining why it is bad will require a deeper deconstruction, meaning this review will be long. So enjoy your Christmas with this repugnant gift that keeps on giving!

Skip Beat HeaderPart of me feels inherently bad when I am unable to go through a 25 episode series within a week. Afterall, at most it would be a 8.5 hour long session that can be broken up by watching three episodes thrice, sandwiched in by sour sessions of four. I mean, I can spare up to three hours for a game, why should another medium be limited towards one or less? Maybe I just dislike marathoning stuff I like, because I didn’t want it to end. Or maybe it is just how I am dreading what I have to do next, and even the most mediocre stuff shines in comparison, let alone something I find to be wonderful.

It has been a while since I did one of these long winded Fairly Messy Rants, which is a title that I am debating, since it is more of a critique than a rant.  However, I don’t see a huge need to change the title, mostly because I dislike manipulating categories via this interface, and it encompasses my feelings whilst writing.  So let’s talk society, because I have no reviews on my posting backlog.  So have something I made a few months ago, and I am not so super fond of.

Despite getting frustrated by self-imposed handicaps, scheduling, and the fact I just don’t like proof reading my work more than once, I absolutely adore doing this. Not only do I feel accomplished when consuming media, but it helps me understand it a lot more, and what exactly make something good. In addition to working on a large backlog of media, while revisiting old favorites simply due to how I enjoyed them years ago when I first heard of them. And now I am, at least I hope, able to adequately explain why I like them. With ToraDora being one of the later, and I have to say, it holds up pretty darn well.

Twelve-year-old me once said something along the lines of, “Don’t judge a book by its cover, judge it by the description on the back. If it sounds nifty, give it a whirl!” But with a plot synopsis, it is still easy for something to not result in being anything like you expected it. It happened with pretty much every drama review I made, and Oreimo, to a certain extent. Yet, is this a case where the dismissal of the premiss allows it to soar high and smile while boiling in space, or dig a whole to some magma and lose it’s flesh? If you’ve checked out my twitter account during October the 21st-25th, you probably know the answer. For everyone else, here’s a review.

I try to be open to pretty much everything. However, upon going through several iterations of what I refer to as “Youth Drama” animes, I have come out bored and upset that I watched that instead of trying to review something fun. Like a show about the Cthulhu mythos, reimagined with cute anime girls.  However, this week I am here to talk about Tari Tari, a show like, Natsuyuki Rendezvous, Moyashimon: Tales of Agriculture, and Angel Beats. Yes, I have shown myself to not be a very big fan of this subgenre. However, a show about people being happy might just be enough to get me out of this runt, hit the jump and find out.

You know, I do not really like it when after playing a game for a few hours, I do not want to beat it and can’t even force myself into doing it.  I think my breaking point is not when a game is bad, but when the design just baffles me to the point where I can’t convince myself that the product can be redeemed.  A wise man once said that if something keeps getting worse, it will likely not pull a U-turn and go into something great.  Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was one of the least simulating globs that I even feel ripped off for getting it for $40 at launch.  While Bayonetta was just not fun for me after 2 hours, and was going to be too repetitive if I tried to play it the proper way.

I am the kind of guy who believes that something should not be judged completely based on its surface elements. However, those surface elements should accurately represent a product unless the point of a misleading surface element is for some kind of deconstruction, like with Spec Ops: The Line. So when I looked up information on this title, only to figure out that the titles of Oreimo is just an abbreviation of something that translates to, My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute… A title that would make anyone a bit embarrassed if they brought it up to the register unless it is also a place that sells body pillows of middle schoolers.
